In Peru, there were created more than 68 thousand companies between October and December of 2023

The number of active companies registered in the Central Companies and Establishments during the fourth quarter of 2023 increased 6.1% compared to the same quarter of the year 2022; this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the Technical Report Business Demography in Peru, being its main source the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT).
Likewise, the INEI informed that there were created (increases) 68 thousand 847 companies between October and December, meanwhile 68 thousand 326 companies conclude their activities, registering a net variation of 521 companies.
It is worth to mention that the rate of increases, that links the companies created during the third quarter of 2023 with the entrepreneurial stock at the end of the period, and the entrepreneurial mortality rate, the one that shows the relation between the companies that no longer operate with the stock at the end of the mentioned period, constituted the 2.1% of the total of each one.
Creation of companies increased in 4.0%
The INEI also informed that in the quarter under study, were created 68 thousand 847 companies, a figure greater in 4.0% compared with the same period of the last year.
The higher number of companies created was presented in the activities of retail trade (25.7%), wholesale trade (13.7%), other services that include activities of personal services, human health, of associations, real state, sports, leisure and recreational, educational and financial (13.6%), services provided to companies (9.8%), activities of service of foods and beverages (8.6%), manufacturing industries (6.9%), and transportation and storage (6.7%).
25.9% of causalities by temporary or definitive closure of their activities was concentrated in the retail trade
During the fourth quarter of 2023, the quantity of company closures registered a growth of 25.9%, compared with the same period of the last year.
According to economic activity, the greater percentage of companies closed was registered by the retail trade (22.3%), followed by the wholesale trade (17.5%), other services (14.3%), manufacturing industries (11.6%), transportation and storage (8.9%), and services provided to companies (7.8%).
In Lima were created 28 thousand 74 companies
During the fourth quarter of 2023, in Lima were created 28 thousand 74 companies, a figure that represented 40.8% of the total, which indicates that four out of ten new companies started their activities in this jurisdiction. Likewise, 51 thousand 947 companies in Lima were shutdown, which represented the 76.0% of the total of companies.

It is important to inform that the SUNAT continued with the verification process and recording leaving during 2023, which started in July of the same year. That mentioned verification implies that even when the causalities were registered during the operative period, could be registered before the registration period.

Legal persons with business represented 58.3% of total of companies created in the fourth quarter of 2023
According to form of organization of businesses, legal persons with business represented 58.3%, followed of those constituted as limited company (18.0%) and those that operated under the modality of individual company of limited liability (14.6%), among the most significative. The same behavior was observed in the companies that had to close their activities.

One out of two companies created as legal persons in the country are conducted by women during the fourth quarter of 2023
In Peru were registered 40 thousand 142 discharged as legal persons companies, of which 20 thousand 674 companies were conducted by women, representing the 51.5% of the total; which evidenced a greater participation of women in the conduction of this type of entrepreneurships.

Women led the conduction of companies created as legal persons in 19 departments
In 19 departments it was presented a greater participation of women that conduct companies registered as natural persons, outstanding Tumbes with 57.1%, Moquegua and Tacna (56.6% each one), and Cusco (56.3%), among the most representatives.

On the other hand, the conduction of companies prevailed in men in the departments of Apurímac (54.9%), Cajamarca (53.8%), Amazonas (52.6%), Pasco (52.2%), Huánuco (51.9%) and La Libertad (51.7%).

Eight out of ten companies of mining and quarrying created as natural persons were conducted by men
According to economic activity, men represented a greater percentage in the conduction of entrepreneurships in productive units related to mines quarries exploitation (80.9%), construction (80.2%), transportation and storage (78.4%), information and communications (74.1%), sale and repair of vehicles (72.0%), and agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing (66.7%), among the most outstanding.

Likewise, woman had greater participation in the following sector beauty salons (69.1%), activities of services of foods and beverages (62.6%), retail trade (60.8%), wholesale trade (55.5%) and accommodation activities (52.3%).
