More girls and female adolescents than boys and male adolescents access to the Internet

The results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the fourth quarter of 2023, revealed that the proportion of women between 15 to 17 years old (95.0%); as well as the girls between 6 to 14 years old (73.3%) accesses to the Internet in greater proportion compared to its male peers. In fact, men of 15 to 17 years old represented 93.4% and in those aged 6 to 14 years old reached 70.0%; this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) through the technical report Statistics with Gender Perspective
 
On the other hand, the percentage of men of 30 to 49 years old (88.7%) and the percentage of men of 50 years old and older (60.3%) accessed to the Internet in greater proportion compared with their women peers, which represented 85.7% and 52.5%, respectively.  
 
Meanwhile, during the fourth quarter of 2023, 80.2% of men of 6 years old and older had accessed to the Internet, percentage greater in 2.7 percentage points compared to women percentage (77.5%). Compared to the results of the same quarter of the year 2022, the mentioned proportion increased in 4.6 and 4.9 percentage points, respectively.
 
More women than men suffer chronic health problems
During the fourth quarter of 2023, 45.5% of women manifested they suffer some chronic health problem, superior figure in 8.2 percentage points compared to men puntos (37.3%). Compared with the same quarter of the year 2022, women and men with chronic health problems increased in 0.6 and 0.5 percentage point, respectively.
 
According to age groups, 82.9% of the female population and 74.4% of the male population of 60 years old and older indicated they suffer chronic health problems.
 
Increases seeking medical attention of women and men with health problems
The ENAHO results of the fourth quarter of 2023, revealed that 43.5% of women and 35.7% of affected men with some chronic health problem sought medical attention. Compared with the same quarter of 2022, the proportion of women (37.4%) that sought medical attention increased in 6.1 percentage points and the proportion of men (34.0%) increased in 1.7 percentage points.
 
Households headed by women and men benefit from food programs increase
During the analysis period, at national level, 37.3% of the households headed by men and 35.3% of the households headed by women accessed to food programs, compared to the same quarter of 2022 it is appreciated an increase of 2.4 and 3.4 percentage points, respectively.

According to residence place, 50.2% of the rural male-headed households had some member that had access to food programs; meanwhile, in the rural female-headed households, this proportion reached 47.1%. In the urban area, the male-headed households with some member with access to food programs represented 32.6% and in female-headed households with some member with access to food programs represented 32.7%.
 
Access to financial system increases in women and men
During the period under analysis and according with the results of the National Household Survey, 56.4% and 57.8% of women and men aged 18 years old and older, have a savings or checking account. Compared to the fourth quarter of the year 2022, the proportion of women and men that have a savings or checking account increased in 3.6 and 3.1 percentage points, respectively.
 
Greater proportion of women and men access to the Internet through a cellphone
The ENAHO of the fourth quarter of 2023, revealed that 90.5% of women and 91.2% of men, accessed to the Internet through a cellphone; meanwhile, 17.1% of women and men, in each case, accessed to the Internet through a laptop and 15.0% of women and 16.7% of men accessed to the Internet through a computer.
 
Two thirds of employed women work in Commerce and Services activities
According to the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN) of the fourth quarter of 2023, 71.5% of working women are engaged in Commerce (25.7%) and Services (45.8%) activities; meanwhile, men that work in these sectors reached 53.9%. 
 
Meanwhile, the proportion of women that work in Agriculture/Fishing/Mining reached 19.6% and men that engaged in the mentioned activities represented 25.6%; in Manufacture, the percentage of women was of 8.1% and the percentage of men 9.3%; and in Construction women reached 0.8% and men reached 11.2%.
