Production of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew 3.96% in January of 2024

In January of 2024, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased in 3.96%, compared to the same month of the year 2023, due to the expansion of the metallic mining subsector (4.58%) and in lower measure due to the positive variation of the hydrocarbons subsector (0.57%). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of the Economic Activity.
The positive performance of the metallic mining activity was explained due to the greater volume of gold (25,9%), silver (16.6%) and molybdenum (8.8%) production mainly. Likewise, in the hydrocarbon’s subsector, due to the exploitation of crude petroleum (21.5%).
The Fishing sector decreased in 26.75%
The INEI informed that the Fishing sector reduced in 26.75% due to the effect of the lower extraction of species of marine origin (-28.59%), intended to indirect human consumption (anchovy for fish meal and fish oil) registering an extraction of 122,976 tons that against the 546.831 tons of January 2023, showed a reduction of January 2023, showed a reduction of 77.51%.
The extraction of anchovy on January 2024, corresponded to the last section of the Second Fishing Season 2023 of the resource in the North-Centre Zone of the Peruvian coastline (termination date: January 12 of 2024).
On the other hand, the landing for direct human consumption showed a positive performance (29.99%), of species intended to the preparation of canning (127.0%), for consumption in fresh state para (28.9%) and for frozen (26.4%); meanwhile, it decreased for the preparation of cured (-26.7%). Also, it was informed that the continental origin fishing decreased in 7.26% due to the lower extraction of species for fresh state consumption and for the preparation of cured.
Investment Expenditure of the General Government grew in 136.84%
During the month under analysis, the Investment Expenditure of the General Government (S/2 169 million) grew in 136.84%, compared to the month of January of the year 2023, sustained in the increase of the construction and machinery equipment and machinery and equipment, in the three government sectors (national, regional and local).
During January 2024, the General Government consumption expenditure, in nominal terms, totalized S/ 8 965 million and showed a growth of 16.60%, compared to the same month of the last year.
Consumer loans increased in 5.72%
The INEI informed that in January of the current year, the consumer loans placed in S/ 73,383 million, increasing in 5.72%, compared to the same month of the last year. In addition, the mortgage loans totalized S/ 63,688 million, registered an increase of 5.19% compared to January of 2023. On the other hand, the credits granted to big, medium, small and micro-enterprises totalized S/ 211,025 million, with a decrease of 6.22%, compared to January of 2023.
The placement of credit cards of multiple banking was of 6 million 300 thousand units, with a variation of -6.48%.
Electricity generation grew 4.59% in February 2024
According to preliminary figures up to February 28 of the current year, the electricity generation increased in 4.59%, driven by the greater generation of energy of thermoelectric origin (5.8%) and renewable energies (90.4%); nevertheless, the hydroelectric origin was affected (-0.6%).
The companies that outstood by its greater production were: Energía Eólica S.A., Enel Generación Perú S.A.A., Empresa de Generación Huanza, Egesur, Statkraft S.A., Kallpa Generación S.A., Engie, Chinango S.A.C. and Parque Eólico Tres Hermanas S.A.C.
Total import increased in 5.89%
With the information available as of February 22 of 2024, in January of the current year the total imported amount was of US$ 4,037 million, amount greater in 5.89% compared to the value registered in January 2023.
Therefore, the import of capital goods and construction materials totalized US$ 1,167 million and grew in 17.79% compared to the same month of the year 2023. Followed by the acquisition of consumption goods that totalized US$ 855 million, registering an increase of 3.11%, compared to the first month of the last year.
Likewise, the import of raw materials and intermediate products placed in US$ 2,014 million, registering and increase of 1.13%, compared to the value of January 2023.
