Departments of Piura and San Martin contributed with 71.8% of the total production of paddy rice

During December of 2023, the paddy rice production showed a positive performance mainly in the departments of Piura (36.1%) and San Martin (17.0%), that together concentrated the 71.8% of the national production. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook.
Likewise, it grew in Junín (132.5%), Huánuco (111.7%), Lambayeque (17.4%), Cajamarca (12.6%), Loreto (4.7%) and Amazonas (0.4%). On the other hand, the production of this cereal decreased in Madre de Dios (-70.5%), Pasco (-69.1%), Ucayali (-40.4%) and Tumbes (-39.2%).
At national level, the paddy rice production registered 313 thousand 972 tons and exceeded in 12.7% to the volume obtained in December of 2022, sustained in the increase of the harvested areas and better performance of the crops oriented to the domestic market.
Blueberries production was led by three departments
During the month under analysis, the blueberries production increased in the producer departments of La Libertad (66.6%), Lambayeque (47.1%) and Ica (46.9%), which contributed with the 87.6% of the national total. In addition, it increased in Ancash (50.0%), Piura (15.1%) and Lima (9.1%).
The blueberries production at national level reached 35 thousand 371 tons, showing a growth of 54.8% compared to the same month of 2022 (22 thousand 847 tons), influenced by the good weather conditions in the producer departments that favored this crop destined for foreign market. al mercado.
Departments of Arequipa, La Libertad and Lima contributed with the 81.9% of the total poultry production
The poultry production decreased in 1.5%, determined by the low placement of BB chicken of the meat line, due to the increased costs of food supply. This result was explained by the negative behavior of 17 departments, among them there are the main producers, Arequipa (-3.4%), La Libertad (-2.0%) and Lima (-0,8%); nevertheless, together they contributed with the 81.9% of the poultry national production.
On the other hand, there were reported positive results in Huancavelica (8.2%), Ayacucho (5.2%), Moquegua (5.1%), Puno (4.6%), Huánuco (3.8%), Pasco (1.5%) and Amazonas (0.1%).
Copper production added 16 months in a row of positive behavior
The INEI informed that the copper production increased in 1.7% and accumulated 16 months in a row of favorable behavior, driven by the greater extraction performed in the following mining companies Anglo American Quellaveco, Antamina, Minera Antapaccay, Hudbay Peru, Las Bambas and Southern Peru Copper Corporation.
The copper production expanded mainly in Cusco (33.2%), Apurímac (17.8%), Ancash (10.8%) and Moquegua (3.0%), representing the 59.1% of the total production. Nevertheless, it was lower in Ayacucho (-29.7%), Arequipa (-21.1%), Ica (-19.9%), Cajamarca (-16.7%), Junín (-13.4%) and Huanuco (-13.0%).
Electric energy production increased in 1.0%
The electric energy production, in December of the year 2023, grew mainly in Huánuco (158.2%), Ica (78.6%), Cajamarca (68.2%), Junín (65.7%), Huancavelica (61.7%), Puno (29.2%), Ancash (21.3%) and Cusco (19.6%), concentrating the 49.2% of the total generation.
Meanwhile, it reduced in Ucayali (-69.0%), Madre de Dios (-68.7%), Moquegua (-47.8%), Arequipa (-40.5%), Lima (-26.4%), Piura (-23.0%), Ayacucho (-5.5%), La Libertad (-2.9%) and Lambayeque (-1.8%).
At national level, the electricity production increased in 1.0%, due to the greater power generation of hydraulic origin in the following power stations of Cerro del Águila, Chaglla, El Platanal, Yuncan, Chimay, Restitución, Santa Teresa, Mantaro; linked to the contribution of the non-conventional renewable energy (Eolic and solar). Meanwhile, it contracted the production of thermic energy before the lower generation in the following power stations Fenix, Kallpa, Ventanilla y Chilca I.
Revenues collected by internal taxes showed unfavorable behavior
During the last month of 2023, the revenues collected by internal taxes totalized 10 thousand 65 million 582 thousand Soles, registering a reduction of 5.5% compared with the reported in December of 2022, as a result of the lower payments of the third, fourth and fifth category income tax; as well as, the selective consumption tax; and special tax to mining, among others.
Therefore, 22 departments registered negative variations, among them Cusco (-32.9%), Arequipa (-13.7%), Lima (-4.7%), Piura (-3.2%) and La Libertad (-0.04%), they contributed with the 94.0% of the collection at national level. Meanwhile, it increased in the departments of Tumbes (7.8%) and Ica (6.7%).
