INEI meets with experts for the implementation of surveys about the measurement of the prevalence of human trafficking

In order to develop international statistics guidelines and tools for the national statistical offices about the measurement of the prevalence of human trafficking, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) meets with the group of experts about the development of questionnaires related to this survey.
The meetings with experts are carry out in the city of Lima from February 6 to 8, 2024, which will serve to clarify the definitions about human trafficking and forced labor and to develop surveys that can capture the differences inside of a same exercise of data collection. It is important to point out that the guidelines relating to the measurement of human trafficking may be submitted to the United Nations Statistical Commission for approval in 2026.
It should also be noted that these meetings are part of the STATIP Project (Standard Tools for the Analysis of Human Trafficking), which is a joint project of the International Labor Organization (ILO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the University of Georgia (UGA).
The event was inaugurated by the Chief of the INEI, Mr. Dante Carhuavilca Bonett with the participation of representatives of international agencies. In addition, it is targeted to technical staff/researchers of the national statistical offices of the region of Latin American and the Caribbean, with experience in design and test of the questionnaires, especially in sensitive subjects such as victimization surveys.
Development of activities
The meetings to be carry out are part of a workshop that will be focus on the following subjects: Development and feedback of the draft of the standard questionnaire for measurement of the human trafficking; content of the international guidelines about the measurement of the human trafficking; and translation protocols, test and adaptation for the application at national level.
