Production of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased 3.55% in December 2023

During December of the year 2023, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased in 3.55% as a result of the expansion of the metal mining activity in 4.09%; meanwhile the hydrocarbons subsector was affected in -0.06%. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of the Economic Activity.
In the performance of the metallic mining activity mainly influenced the greater production of zinc (21.1%), copper (1.7%) and gold (9.4%). Nevertheless, the volume of exploitation of liquids of natural gas (-5.0%) and natural gas (-1.7%).
Fishing sector decreased by 51.34%
The production of Fishing sector reduced in 51.34% due to the lower extraction of species of maritime origin (-54.99%) for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fish meal and fish oil), extracting 163,324 tons that against the 1,039.010 tons reported in December 2022, showed a contraction of 84.28%, this result took place in a context of negative oceanographic conditions, where a greater presence of juvenile anchovy was reported.
Nevertheless, the fishing for direct human consumption increased 9.77% due to the capture of species for canning (83.55%), frozen (10.49%) and for consumption in fresh state (5.82%); on the other hand, the landing of species for preparation of curing decreased (-58.42%). On the other hand, the fishing of continental origin decreased 3.82% due to the lower capture of species for frozen.
The domestic cement consumption decreased in 10.88%
The INEI informed that the domestic cement consumption reduced in 10.88% associated to the lower progress of private works and self-construction compared with the same month of the year 2022.
Investment Expenditure of the General Government grew in 21.59%
During December of the year 2023, the Investment Expenditure of the General Government increased in 21.59%, compared to the month of December 2022, backed up in the increase of the investment, both in construction as well as in machinery and equipment; in the national and regional level.
In addition, the General Government consumption expenditure, in nominal terms, totalized S/ 17,561 million, registering an increase of 7.46%, compared to the same month of the last year.
Granting of consumer credits kept a favorable behavior
During the month of analysis, the consumption credits placed in S/ 73,579 million, increasing in 7.30%, compared to the same month of the last year. Followed by the mortgage credits that totalized S/ 63,450 million, with an increase of 5.15% compared to December of 2022.
Nevertheless, the credits granted to corporations, big, medium, small and micro-enterprises totalized S/ 213,836 million, lower amount in 6.08%, compared to December of the year 2022.
Total imports reduced in 10,35%
During December of the year 2023, the total amount imported was of US$ 4,346 million, registering a reduction of 10.35% compared to the value registered in December 2022.
Likewise, the acquisition of raw materials and intermediate products decreased by placing in US$ 2,114 million, inferior amount in 17.65%, compared to the value of December 2022. Followed by the total amount imported in consumption goods (US$ 918 million), with a reduction of 2.81%. As well as, the purchase of capital goods and construction materials totalized US$ 1 314 million, a figure that showed a decrease of 1.67% compared the same month of the year 2022.
Electricity generation increased 3.64% in January of 2024
According to preliminary figures as of January 29 of the current year, the electricity generation showed a progress of 3.64%, as a result of the greater generation of hydroelectric energy (18.9%) and renewable energies (50.1%). Meanwhile, the thermoelectric origin energy decreased (-24.3%).
Among the companies that outstood by its production are: Empresa de Generación Huallaga, Electro Oriente, Chinango, Enel Generación Perú, Generadora de Energía del Perú, Statkraft, Shougesa, San Gabán and Celepsa.
