Water production in Lima Metropolitan area grew 2.1% in December of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that according to the information provided by National Service of Potable Water and Sewerage Service of Lima (SEDAPAL), during the month of December of 2023, the potable water production in Lima Metropolitan area totalized 68 million 997 thousand cubic meters, which represented an increase of 2.1% compared with the same month of 2022 (67 million 558 thousand cubic meters).
In the technical report Environmental Statistics is stated that during the last month of 2023, the average flow of Rimac and Chillon River reached an increase. In fact, in the case of the Rimac River, the river flow reached 32,54 m3/s, a higher figure in 53.1% and 16.5% compared to the month of December of 2022 and compared to its historic average, respectively. Meanwhile, the Chillon River totalized 8,02 m3/s, greater than 259.6% and 50.8% compared to the month of December of 2022 and to its historical average.
The river flow of the rivers of north and center zone of the Pacific Ocean watershed increases
During the month of December of 2023, the rivers of the north zone of the Pacif Ocean watershed reported increase in its river flows. Of which, the Jequetepeque River reached 29,87 m3/s, which represented a growth of 1,295.8% and 52.2% compares to the month of December of 2022 and its historic average; meanwhile, the water volume of the Tumbes River reached 73,36 m3/s, greater in 250.5% and 88.8% compared to the month of December of 2022 and to its historic average.
On the other hand, the Chira River (84,09 m3/s) increased by 67.4% compared to its historic average. Meanwhile, the Flow of the Calvas River (16,87 m3/s) increased in 99.6% compared to the last month of 2022; however, it decreased in 16.1% compared to its historic average.
In the case of the rivers of the center zone of the Pacific Ocean watershed, also observed increase in its river flows. In fact, the water volume of the Chancay-Huaral River totalized 28,53 m3/s which represented an increase of 261.1% and 128.2% compared to December of 2022 and to historic average, respectively. Meanwhile, the flow of Mala River reached 30,80 m3/s, a higher quantity in 221.2% and 99.7% compared to the month of December of 2022 and to its historic average.
Precipitations increase in the north zone of the Pacific Ocean watershed
During the month under analysis, and according with the information of the SENAMHI, the average of the rainfall registered in the north zone of the Pacif Ocean watershed. In the Ayabaca station the average of the rainfalls reached 317,70 mm, superior quantity in 343.7% and 230.2% compared to the same month of December of 2022 and to its historic average.
Meanwhile, in the Llapa station the rainfalls reached an average of 221,30 mm, which meant a growth of 226.9% and 114.6% compared to the reached in December of 2022 and to its historic average. Likewise, in the station of Santa Cruz (121,70 mm) the rainfalls elevated by 79.2% and 134.5% compared to the reached in December 2022 and to its historic average. Meanwhile, in the station La Cruz the rainfalls reached 13,30 mm, a higher figure in 133.3% compared to its historic average.
Tacna, Arequipa and Puno registered the lowest temperatures
During the month of December of 2023 and according to the monitoring of 9 stations of the SENAMHI, the departments of Tacna, Arequipa and Puno registered the lowest temperatures.
In the departments of Tacna, in the stations of Paucarani (-9.2°C) and Bocatoma (-2.6°C); in Arequipa, in the stations of Pillones (-7.4°C), Tisco (-6.8°C), Imata (-5.6°C), Las Salinas (-3.8°C) and Porpera (-2.2°C); and in Puno, in the stations of Mazo Cruz (-3.4°C) and Santa Lucia (-1.8°C).
Emergencies at national level increased 85,8%
During the month of December and according to the information of the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI), at national level were registered 459 emergencies, result higher in 85.8% compared to the month of December of 2022. The emergencies left 10 deceased, 20 persons injured, 6948 affected people, 3,883 affected homes, 309 destroyed houses and 1,792 hectares of crops lost.
The greater number of emergencies were registered in the departments of Huancavelica (70), Cusco (53), Apurímac (44), Ayacucho (41), Lima (28), San Martin (23), Puno (21), Piura and Ancash (19 in each one), Huánuco and Cajamarca (18 in each one), Pasco (17), Ucayali (14), Loreto (13), Amazonas (10), Lambayeque (9), Junín (8), Madre de Dios and Ica (7 in each one), Tumbes (6), La Libertad and Arequipa (4 in each one), Constitutional Province of Callao (3), Tacna (2) and Moquegua (1).
These emergencies were caused by heavy rains (146), urban fires (112), hailstorm (43), strong winds (35), flood due to overflowing of river (27), thunderstorms (winds with rains) (24), electric storms (17), landslide and collapse of housing (9 in each case) water deficit (8), huaycos (7), flood due to channels overflow (5), hills collapse and pests (4 in each case), flood and forest fires (2 in each case), bank erosion, snowfalls and frosts and accident of river transportation and collapse by antiquity (1 in each case).
