Restaurants activity decreased 1.90% in October 2023

The restaurants activity (foods and beverage services) contracted by 1.90% during the tenth month of the year, with reports downwards in three of its four components. In spite of the negative variation of October, during the first ten months of the year, this sector accumulates a progress of 2.78%.

The restaurants group showed a variation of -5.66%, due to lower activity in business such as Pollerías (Grilled chicken), meats and grills, restaurants, fast foods, Cevicherías (seafood restaurant), tourist restaurants, ice-cream shops and Chifas (Chinese food). This was a result of a lower influx of visitors and the increase of the prices of a la carte dishes. The same trend followed the establishments of coffee restaurants, confectioners, food from Arequipa, pizza restaurant, Northern food and Chinese food.

The beverage service decreased 0.73%, due to the lower income in the establishments of bar restaurants and pubs, as a consequence of the reduction of the customer service hours, lower coverage of delivery service and closure of establishments.

Supplying by catering decreased 6.18%, affected by the cut of contracts in the preparation and distribution service of foods for public and private events, in the attention of buffets and in banquets.

Other activities of food service increased 15.48%, due to the greater activity of food suppliers based in the capture and renewal of contracts with companies of the mining, fishing, electricity, financial institutions, clinics, hospitals, universities and ministry sector. In the same line, the food supply for contractors (service of food to transportation companies) increased due to the demand of air and inland transportation companies linked to the greater frequency of travels due to celebration of public holidays.
