75 thousand companies were created in Peru between July and September of 2023

In the third quarter of 2023, the number of active companies registered in the Central Companies and Establishments Directory was of 3 million 216 thousand 7 companies, a higher figure in 4.0% compared with the same quarter of the year 2022; this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the Technical Report Business Demography in Peru, being their main source the Taxpayers’ Register of the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT).
Likewise, the INEI informed that 75 thousand 712 companies were created between July and September, while 144 thousand 318 companies closed down their activities, registering a negative net variation of 68 thousand 606 companies, this happened because the SUNAT, main provider of the base administrative registry, had reactivated a verification process of companies’ removals.
It is worth to mention that close down rate of companies, which relates the created companies in the third quarter of 2023 with the business inventory at the end of the period, which was 2.4% of the total; meanwhile the business mortality rate, the one which shows the relation between the companies that ceased operating with the inventory at end of the mentioned period, was of 4.5%. Therefore, there was a rate of negative net variation of 2.1%.
Enterprise creation increased by 15.2%
The INEI informed that, in the quarter under study, 75 thousand 712 companies were created, a higher figure in 15.2% compared with the same period of the last year.
The greater number of created companies was registered in the activities of retail commerce (25.5%), other services that include the activities of personal services, human health, of associations, real state, sports, of leisure and recreation, education and financial (13.3%), wholesale commerce (13.1%), services provided to companies (9.4%), activities of service of foods and beverages (8.9%), transportation and storage (8.1%) and manufacturing industries (6.9%).
20.0% of close down companies by temporary or definitive closure of their activities was concentrated in the retail commerce
During the third quarter of 2023, the quantity of close down of companies increased 142.7%, compared with the same period of 2022.
According to economic activity, the greater proportions of close down companies were registered in the retail commerce (20.0%), followed by other services (16.3%), wholesale commerce (14.5%), transportation and storage (12.2%), manufacturing industries (9.3%) and services provided to companies (7.5%) sectors.
In Lima were created 30 thousand 481 companies
During the third quarter of 2023, were created in Lima 30 thousand 481 companies, figure that represented the 40.3% of the total of companies created during the analyzed period, which indicates that of each ten new companies, four started activities in this jurisdiction. Likewise, in Lima, 70 thousand 257 companies close down their activities, a figure that represented 48.7% of the total of companies closed down in the country during the third quarter. This indicates that from every ten companies closed down, five companies closed down within this jurisdiction.
Legal persons with business represented the 59.4% from the total of companies created during the third quarter of 2023
According to the manner of organization of businesses, the greater proportions where registered; legal persons with business, with the 59.4%, followed by those constituted as anonymous society (17.0%) and those that operated under the modality of individual enterprise of limited responsibility (14.3%). The same behavior was observed in the companies that had to close down their companies’ activities.
50.5% of the companies created as legal persons in the country are managed by women during the third quarter 2023
In Peru were registered 44 thousand 986 companies closed down as legal persons, from which 22 thousand 727 companies are conducted by women representing the 50.5% of the total; which evidenced a greater participation of women in the management of this type of entrepreneurship.
Women led the management of companies created as legal persons in 17 departments
In 17 departments were registered a greater participation of women that manage companies registered as legal persons, outstanding Tumbes with 57.9%, Cusco (56.5%), Ica (55.6%), Arequipa (55.1%), Amazonas (54.9%) and Junín (54.1%), among the most representatives. On the other hand, predominating men in the management of companies in the departments of Cajamarca (54.0%), Huancavelica (53.7%), Apurímac (52.0%), Lima (51.8%), Moquegua (51.4%), La Libertad (51.0%), the Constitutional Province of Callao (50.9%) and Huánuco (50.6%).
80.7% of the construction companies created by legal persons were managed by men
According to economic activity, women had the greater participation in the sector of beauty parlors (72.0%), activities of foods and beverages service (61.8%), retail commerce (59.7%), wholesale commerce (55.4%) and accommodation activities (54.5%).
Men represented a greater percentage in the management of entrepreneurships in productive units related with construction (80.7%), transportation and storage (79.0%), exploitation of mines and quarries (72.1%), sale and repair of vehicles (70.7%), information and communications (67.4%) and agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing (62.3%), among the most outstanding.
