86.1% of the population of 6 to 17 years of age use the Internet through cellphone during the third quarter of 2023

During the third quarter of 2023, 86.1% of the population of 6 to 17 years of age had access to the Internet through a cellphone. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the Technical Report State of Childhood and Adolescence, prepared with the results of the National Survey of Household (ENAHO).
Likewise, an increase in the access to the Internet in the household was registered and also the access to the Internet through the educational establishment by reporting increases of 4.5 and 6.9 percentage points (by going from 28.7 to 33.2%) and (from 5.6% to 12.5%).
Access to the Internet of the population of 12 to 17 years of age reached 90.2%
Among the population of 12 to17 years of age, the Access to the Internet was of 90.2% and among the population of 6 to 11 years of age was of 64.2% registering an increase of 2.2 and 4.7 percentage points.
School attendance rate in elementary and high-school education increased in the population of 6 to 16 years of age
During the third quarter of 2023, the school attendance rate in Elementary and high school education among the population of 6 to 11 years of age was of 98.3%, registering a growth of 1.9 and 1.2 compared to the same quarter of the years 2022 and 2019.
By residence area, the school attendance to Elementary education level in the rural area reached 98.4% and in the urban area 98.2% with increases of 1.2 and 2.0 percentage points, respectively; compared with the same quarter of the last year.
The INEI also informed that 86.9% of the population of 12 to 16 years of age attended high-school education level, percentage that compared with the quarter July-August-September 2022 grew in 1.0 percentage point and compared to the same quarter of the year 2019, it increased in 2.5 percentage points.
Population under 18 years of age sought medical attention to their health problem or chronic discomfort in a health establishment
During the third quarter of this year, 68.7% of the population under 18 years of age, that informed they had some health problem or chronic discomfort, they sought medical attention in a health establishment.
From this total, 24.6% went to an establishment of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), with a growth of 6.4 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year. The population that sought medical attention in a pharmacy grew by 22.7% and showed an increase of 2.4 percentage points, compared to the third quarter of the last year.
Meanwhile, 31.3% did not sought attention to attend their health problem, decreasing 7.0 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the year 2022.
18.2% presented chronic health problem and other disease during the last four weeks
The INEI informed that 18.2% of the population under 18 years of age stated that they had some health problem or chronic disease. From this total, 11.2% additionally to the chronic health problem they presented another disease that affected their health, during the last four weeks before the performance of the survey; and the 7.0% just have a chronic health disease.
93.7% of the population under 18 years of age had accessed to some health insurance
During the third quarter of 2023, 93.7% of the population under 18 years of age accessed to some health insurance. From this total, 68.4% only have the only the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) and the 22.0% the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud).
In the rural area the 96.6% are affiliated, being the SIS one of the largest coverages with 91.9% affiliated people. In the urban area, 92.9% of the population have health insurance, from which the 61.5% stated that they are affiliated to the SIS and 27.2% to EsSalud.
75.3% of the adolescent population of 14 to 17 years of age just study
During the third quarter of 2023, 75.3% of the adolescent population of 14 to 17 years of age just study, a figure greater in 5.5 percentage points that during the quarter of the last year. Likewise, compared to the third quarter of 2019 grew by 7.5 percentage points.
On the other hand, 11.8% study and also performs some activity, 8.9% did not study nor work and 4.0% just work. Compared with the same 2022 quarter, decreased by 2.4, 0.6 and 2.5 percentage points, respectively.
According to residence area, during the quarter under study, in the urban area 78.5% of the population of 14 to 17 years of age study; meanwhile, in the rural area was of 64.6%. Likewise, those that study and help in some activity, in the rural area reached 22.7% and in the urban area reached 8.5%.
50.5% of the households of the country have among their members at least one person under 18 years old
During the third quarter of 2023, 50.5% of the households of the country have among their members at least one person under 18 years old, it means, 2.3 percentage points less than the same quarter of the year 2022. In the urban area 50.9% of the households have among their members at least one person under 18 years old and in the rural area the 49.0%.
