Production of the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew 3.10% in October 2023

In the tenth month of the current year, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector showed a positive performance of 3.10%, explained by the greater production explained by the greater production of the mining (3.14%) and hydrocarbons (2.81%) subsectors.
The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of the Economic Activity stated that it was registered a greater volume of copper (2.1%), zinc (10.4%) and gold (10.0%) production; meanwhile it decreased the iron (-10.9%) and molybdenum (-3.8%) production. In the hydrocarbons, subsector the exploitation volume of crude petroleum (9.8%) and natural gas liquids (4.3%).
The Fishing sector increased by 51.62%
The Fishing sector grew by 51.62%, being this the greater increase so far this year, due to the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (62.37%), for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), capturing 233,964 tons, against 1,099 tons reported in October 2022. This capture of anchovy corresponded to the exploratory fishing of this resource (R.M. N° 354-2023-PRODUCE) and to the Second Fishing Season in the Northern-Center zone of the Peruvian coastline (R.M. N° 358-2023-PRODUCE).
In addition, the fishing for direct human consumption increased by 3.64% as a result of a greater landing of species for frozen (44.7%). On the hand, the capture of species for consumption in fresh state (-15.5%), preparation of cured (-44.7%) and preparation of canning (-48.0%). The fishing of continental origin grew 7.81% as a consequence of the greater capture of species for consumption in fresh state and for frozen.
Production of electricity increased by 0.33%
According to preliminary figures as of 28 of November of 2023, the electricity generation increased by 0.33%, due to the greater hydroelectric origin generation (20.8%) and renewable energies (68.5%); meanwhile the thermoelectric origin generation decreased (-17.9%).
Among the companies that outstood by its greater production were Chinango, Power station Huallaga, Electric Company El Platanal (Celepsa), Statkraft Perú, Orazul Energy Perú, San Gaban, Egemsa, Empresa de Generación Huanza and ElectroPerú.
Domestic cement consumption reduced by 8.68%
During the tenth month of the current year, the domestic cement consumption decreased by 8.68% compared with October 2022 due to the low level of progress of private works and self-construction works.
Granting of consumer credits grew by 10.84%
During October of 2023, consumer credits totalized S/ 74,069 million, increasing in 10.84% compared to the same month of the last year, followed by the mortgage credits that totalized S/ 63,094 million, with a growth of 4.86%. On the other hand, the credits granted to corporations, big, medium, small and micro-companies decrease totalizing S/ 215,971 million, registering a reduction of 8.10%.
On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking was affected by placing in 6 million 459 thousand units, with a reduction of 2.71%, compared to the same month of 2022.
The total import amount decreased by 2.01%
The INEI informed that the total import amount was of US$ 4,876 million, and showed a reduction of 2.01% compared to the value registered in October 2022. This result was linked to the lower import of raw materials and intermediate products that reached US$ 2,498 million, which means a decrease of 8.46%.
According to the use or economic destination, the total import amount of consumption goods totalized US$ 1,013 million, registering an increase of 1.52%, compared to the value reported in the same month of 2022, followed by the import of capital goods and construction materials that totalized US$ 1,360 million and grew 8.88%.
