Piura and Lambayeque excelled in the growth of the grape production contributing with the 66.9% in September of 2023

During September of 2023, the frape production registered a positive in the production areas in the northern part of the country, mainly in Piura (300.0%) and Lambayeque (272.7%), influenced by the advancement of the crops, which together contributed with the 66.9% of the national total. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook.
Likewise, the INEI informed that the production of this fruit increased in the departments of La Libertad (34.0%), Arequipa (29.1%) and San Martín (8.0%); nevertheless, it decreased in Ancash (-45.7%) and Cajamarca (-42.9%).
The grape production, reached 22 thousand 421 tons and grew by 128.8% at national level, compared to the same month of 2022 that reported 9 thousand 801 tons, favored by good weather conditions to the phenological development of this crop oriented towards foreign markets and agribusiness.
Avocado production contracted in the main producing departments of La Libertad and Lima
The avocado production basically decreased in La Libertad (-68.9%) and Lima (-18.7%); nevertheless, contributed with the 61.2% of the national total. Likewise, the levels obtained decreased in the departments of Arequipa (-80.3%), Ayacucho (-77.2%), Ancash (-56.1%), Lambayeque (-42.5%) and Apurímac (-40.9%), among others.
It is worth to mention that the greater volume produced in the departments of Moquegua (467.4%) and Ica (161.2%), for this reason they were consolidated as the third and fourth producer of this crop, which is destined to the foreign market and agribusiness.
At national level, the avocado production totalized 33 thousand 601 tons and registered a reduction of 35.0% compared to September of the last year (51 thousand 711 tons), due to the lower harvested areas.
Poultry production reduced in 23 departments
Poultry production presented a negative result in 23 departments of the country, mainly in Arequipa (-4.6%) and La Libertad (-2.5%), which contributed with the 25.5% of the national total. Meanwhile, just the department of Lima (first poultry producer) presented a slight increase of 0.1% and contributed with the 56.8% of the total poultry production.
During September of 2023, the poultry production contracted by 1.4% compared to the same month of the last year, explained by the lower placement of BB chickens, due to the high costs of food supply, of soy and hard yellow corn.
Copper production grew 2.0%
During the ninth month of 2023, the copper production increased in the departments of Moquegua (23.3%), Apurímac (18.2%), Tacna (15.1%) and Ica (5.3%), which concentrated the 44.5% of the total. Meanwhile, it decreased in Ayacucho (-37.2%), Junín (-20.0%), Cusco (-9.3%), Ancash (-8.2%), Puno (-6.9%), Arequipa (-6.3%) and Pasco (-2.6%).
At national level, the copper production increased by 2.0% compared to the same month of 2022, determined by the large volumes extracted in the companies Anglo American Quellaveco, Minera Las Bambas, Hudbay Perú, Marcobre and Southern Perú Copper Corporation.
Production of electric energy increased in three departments
During September of 2023, the electricity production increased in the departments of Moquegua (340.9%), Ica (13.9%) and Lima (8.0%), representing together the 68.9% of the total generated. On the other hand, it reduced in Huánuco (-78.5%), Puno (-32.3%), Cajamarca (-24.6%), Junín (-21.0%), Piura (-18.9%) and Huancavelica (-12.1%), among others.
Across the country the electricity energy production, increased by 2.8% compared to the same month of the last year, driven by the increase of the thermic origin energy generation in the power stations of Santa Rosa, Santa Rosa II, Ventanilla, Chilca I, Fenix, Kallpa and Las Flores. Likewise, the non-conventional renewable sources of energy generation (Eolic and solar energy). On the other hand, the production of hydraulic energy in the power stations of Mantaro, Restitución, Cerro del Águila, Cañón del Pato and Yaupi.
Revenues Collected by Internal Taxes contracted by 6.9%
During the month under study, the revenues collected by internal taxes totalized 9 thousand 493 million 722 thousand Soles and decreased by 6.9% compared with the amount registered in September of the previous year, that totalized 10 thousand 191 million 903 thousand soles, influenced mainly by the reduced payments from the third category income tax and the value-added taxes.
It is worth to mention that 13 departments registered a lower collection of taxes, primarily affected in Lima (-8.2%), Piura (-9.0%) and Ica (-6.7%); in spite of this event they contributed with the 88.1% of the total collected. Nevertheless, the tax collection increased in Ancash (18.2%), Arequipa (15.2%), Cusco (14.9%), La Libertad (8.3%), Tumbes (7.4%) and Moquegua (4.4%), among others.
