Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles at national level decreased 3.2% in September of 2023

The National Institute pf Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of September of 2023, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles registered through the tollbooths of the country, reduced by 3.2% compared with the same month of 2022. This result was influenced by the lower demand of the mentioned vehicles for Construction, Agricultural, Manufacturing, due to the lower private investment and weather phenomena that made difficult the traffic flow of heavy-load vehicles.
In the technical report Vehicle Flow by Tollbooths is stated that the tollbooths with lower traffic flow were, to the north, La Libertad (Virú -18.5%, Pacanguilla -11.4% and Chicama -10.3%), Piura (Chulucanas -15.3% and Piura-Sullana -9.7%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará -10.8%), Áncash (Huarmey -8.0%) and Lambayeque (Desvío Olmos -6.1%).
In the center, Junín (Casaracra -11.4%) and Lima (Fortaleza -8.6%, El Paraíso -7.6%, Corcona -6.2%, Serpentine of Pasamayo -4.2% y Variant of Pasamayo -3.5%); and in the south, Puno (Santa Lucía -11.2%), Ica (Marcona -11.0% and Jahuay Chincha -1.9%), Arequipa (Patahuasi -9.0%) and Apurímac (Pichirhua -0.1%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty cargo vehicles of 3 to 7 axle reduced by 2.4%
During September of 2023, the traffic flow of heavy-duty cargo units of 3 to 7 axle decreased 2.4% compared to the same month of 2022, due to the lower traffic flow of heavy-duty units such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-load vehicles of 3 axle (-0.03%), 4 axle (-5.2%), 5 axle (-2.7%) and 6 axle (-3.3%). Nevertheless, the traffic flow of vehicles of 7 axle (5.9%) increased.
Traffic flow of vehicles at national level reported a slight increase of 0.3%
During the month under analysis, the National Index of Vehicle Traffic Flow the one that registered the traffic flow of light and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths across the country registered a slight increase of 0.3%, compared to September of 2022. This happened due to the greater movement of light-duty vehicles (3.1%), attenuated by the lower traffic flow of heavy –duty vehicles (-3.2%). During the last twelve months (October 2022 – September 2023) this indicator increased by 2.6%.
Traffic flow of light-duty vehicles increased by 3.1%
During the month of September of this current year, the traffic flow of light-duty vehicles registered through the tollbooths of the country increased by 3.1% compared to the same month of 2022. This result was driven by the greater displacement of persons at national level, due to religious festivities of such as The Virgin of the Mercedes and the Virgin of Nativity in different places of the country; as well as the Spring International Festival in the North of the country, and other events developed that driven the commerce and accommodation activities.
The tollbooths that reported a greater traffic flow were, to the north San Martín (Moyobamba 106.7%), Tumbes (Cancas 7.7%) and Piura (Chulucanas 7.7%), in the south, Arequipa (Matarani-Concesión 8.7% and Uchumayo-Concesión 3.2%,); an in the center Lima (Variant of Pasamayo 3.8%).
