19.41% of the population in Peru are less than 12 years of age

In commemoration of the Universal Children’s Day, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that according to its forecasts, in Peru there are 6 million 546 thousand boys and girls between 0 to 11 years of age, which represents the 19.41% of the total population of the country. From them, 3 million 333 thousand are men and 3 million 214 thousand are women.
The INEI also informs that according to the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of 2022, 54.5% of the households of the country have at least one member under 18 years old. In the urban area, 55% of the households included at least one minor age, while in the rural area the proportion reached 52.4%.
Net Rate of school enrolment to pre-school increases 78.5%
In the field of Education, according to ENAHO 2022, the net rate of school enrolment to pre-school of the population of 3 to 5 years of age was of 78.5%. The figure reflects an increase of 2.3 percentage points compared to the registered on 2021. In addition, by residence zone, the net rate of school enrolment to pre-school reached 76.8% in the urban area and 83.4% in the rural area.
Regarding the elementary education, the net rate of school enrolment of the population of 6 to 11 years of age was of 94.4% in 2022, a figure that represented a progress of a little more than 2.4 percentage points compared to the rate registered in 2021. By residence area, the net rate of school enrolment in this level of education reached 94.3% in the urban area and 94.6% in the rural area.
The net rate of school attendance in elementary level of education increases
Regarding the level of school attendance to pre-school education level of the population between 3 to 5 years of age was of 77.8% in the country, the 2022. In the urban area, that rate was of 76.2% and in the rural area was of 82.5%.
In the elementary level, the net rate of school attendance of the population between 6 to 11 years of age was of 93.1% in 2022, 1.8 percentage points more than the registered in 2021. By residence área, the net rate of school attendance was 93% in the urban and 93.5% in the rural area.
More boys than girls use the cellphone
Regarding the Access of technology, 70.8% of the population between 6 to 17 years of age use the Internet, according to the ENAHO 2022. In the case of men, the proportion reaches 70%, slightly under the 71.6% registered among women. By natural regions, in the coast, 84% of the minor age between 6 to 17 years of age uses the Internet. In the Highlands the percentage increases to 59.3% and in the jungle reaches 50.6%. In addition, in the urban area, the proportion of under 6 to 17 years of age that has access to the Internet reaches 78.9%, while in rural areas the rate decreases to 46.2%.
Regarding to the use of the cellphone, 77.9% of the minors between 6 to 17 years of age use the cellphone, being the most elevated proportion in the case of men (80.6%) against women (69.9%). In the coast, 8 out of 10 minors between 6 to 17 years of age use the cellphone. In the highlands, the rate is almost the same (79.1%) while in the jungle the proportion reaches 64.8%.
Nine out of ten minors of age have a health insurance
According to the National Household Survey, as of 2022, 91.1% of the population under 18 years of age had a health insurance (91.2% in the case of male and 91% in the case of women). According to the residence area, 90% of the minors of age of urban areas had a health insurance while in the rural area the proportion reached 95.2%.
Likewise, the proportion of the population under 18 years old with Identity Card (DNI) reached 98.2% across the country, according to ENAHO 2022. In the case of men, the proportion was 98.2% and the proportion of women was 98.3%. According to residence area, 98.3% of the minors of age living in urban zones had the DNI and in the rural area, the minor age population with DNI reached 98%.
