National production reduced by 1.29% in September of 2023

During September of 2023, the national production decreased by 1.29% determined by the negative performance of Agricultural, Manufacturing, Construction, Accommodation and Restaurants, Telecommunications, Financial and Services Rendered to Companies sectors; meanwhile, the Fishing, Mining and Hydrocarbons, Electricity, Gas and Water, Commerce, Transportation, Storage and Courier, Government Services and Other Services.
 
The National Institute of Statistics and informatics (INEI) through the technical report National Production, also informed that during the period January – September 2023 the national economy contracted by 0.63% and in the annualized period (October 2022-September 2023) did not show variation compared to the level observed during the period October 2021 – September 2022. 
 
Agricultural sector decreased by 8.78%
The agricultural sector reduced by 8.78% explained by the lower activity of the agricultural subsector (-13.93%) reflected in the lower volumes of strawberry production (-66.7%), starchy maize (-57.9%), raw cotton (-48.7%), wheat (-42.5%), avocado (-35.0%), oil palm (-10.6%) and cacao (-5.1%), linked to the lower level of the sown area of the main crops. In the coast, highlands and jungle were registered minimum temperatures above the normal range.
 
Likewise, the livestock subsector decrease by 0.73% due to lower volumes of fresh milk production (-1.6%), eggs (-1.4%), poultry (-1.4%) and ovine (-0.5%).
 
Production of fishing sector increased by 16.92%
The Fishing sector increased 16.92% as a result of the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (29.77%), for direct human consumption also intended to preparation for canning (154.7%), consumption in fresh state (28.4%) and frozen (27.2%); meanwhile it decreased the production of curing process (-43.3%).
 
The fishing for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil) registered an extraction of 436 tons that, against the 953 tons captured in September of 2022, translated in a decrease of 54.24%. In addition, the continental origin fishing reduced by 13.70%, due to the lower capture of species for consumption in fresh, frozen and cured state.
 
Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased by 8.82%
During September 2023, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew by 8.82% before the expansion of the metallic mining activity in 7.30%, mainly sustained in the greater volume of production of molybdenum (40.5%), copper (2.0%), gold (12.9%), zinc (8.6%) and iron (25.2%); meanwhile it was affected the silver production (-0.8%). Likewise, the hydrocarbons subsector grew in 19.64%, based on the greater volume of exploitation of natural gas liquids (31.7%) and natural gas (33.6%).
 
Manufacturing activity reduced by 9.3%
During September of this year, the Manufacturing sector decreased 9.30% due to the lower activity of the non-primary manufacturing subsector (-13.60%); meanwhile, the primary manufacturing subsector increased (8.24%). The negative result of the non-primary manufacturing subsector was due to the lower level of production in the industry of consumption goods (-15.32%) and the industry of intermediate goods (-12.49%). 
 
On the other hand, the positive evolution of the primary manufacturing subsector was driven by the development of the branches of fabrication of refined petroleum products (63.3%), processing and preservation of fish (18.1%) and sugar processing (13.5%). On the other hand, it decreased the branches of fabrication of primary products of precious metals (-3.1%), as well as the preparation and preservation of meat (-0.2%).
 
Electricity, Gas and Water sector increased by 2.86% 
The INEI informed that the Electricity, Gas and Water grew 2.86% explained by the greater generation of electric energy (2.83%), potable water production (2.36%) and gas distribution (7.10%). The progress of the electricity subsector was based on the thermoelectric origin energy generation (15.9%) and non-conventional renewable energy (26.4%); meanwhile, the hydroelectric origin energy generation decreased (-18.6%). 
 
The water production was driven by the greater volumes reported by the companies EPS Grau (5.9%), Sedapal (3.0%) and Seda Chimbote (1.1%), among the main ones. The increase in the gas distribution was explained by the greater demand of Vehicular Natural Gas (17.8%) from the gas stations and the demand of power generators (9.4%); meanwhile, the distribution to companies decreased (-12.1%). 
 
The production of Commerce sector increased by 1.89%
The Commerce sector increased by 1.89% due to the increased performance of its three components. The wholesale (1.98%) before the demand of machinery and equipment for mining, construction, industry sectors (motors, transformers, electric equipment, centrifugal pumps) and health; telecommunications electronic equipment and its parts due to greater distribution of telephone and communications equipment (smartphone, radio-communication); computers, peripheral equipment and  computer programs increased due to public –private tenders among the main ones. 
 
Likewise, it invigorate the retail sale (2.15%) in products such as computers and communications equipment, agro-chemical, veterinary and optical products, added to the greater demand of fuels in gas stations and self-services establishments. In addition, the sale and repair of vehicles (0.37%) due to commercial strategies.
 
The production of Construction sector decreased by 9.41%
The Construction sector decreased by 9.41% reflected in the lower domestic cement consumption (-10.48%) and the physical progress of public works (-7.07%). In the contractive behavior of the domestic cement consumption came into play the low private investment in construction, as well as the self-construction. The result of the physical progress of public Works was determined by the lower investment within the area of Local (-23.7%) and Regional (-6.2%) Government. Nevertheless, the National Government investment grew (20.7%). According to classification, the works in road infrastructure (highways and rural roads) reduced, basic services (rehabilitation and expansion of sewerage and electrification services) as well as, non-residential building construction (improvements in hospitals, health centers and educational institutions). Nevertheless, the progress of works on risk prevention continued.
 
The production of Transportation, Storage and Courier sector increased by 0.11%
The production of Transportation, Storage and Courier increased by 0.11% due to the development of the transportation subsector (3.01%); nevertheless, the storage and courier subsector contracted (-8.01%). 
 
In the growth of the transportation subsector came into play the dynamism of the air transportation  (10.3%) of passengers and load; of road and pipeline transportation (1.1%), before the greater traffic of passengers by road (3.2%) and the increase of pipeline transportation (25,9%), due to the increase in the demand of natural gas and liquids of natural gas. On the other hand, rail transportation contracted (-2.9%) due to the lower passengers traffic. The transportation by waterways grew 3.6% due to the dynamism of river transportation of both passengers and cargo.
 
Furthermore, storage and courier subsector decreased (-8.01%) before the lower demand of the storage service and support activities to transportation (-7.9%) and post and courier service (-9.9%).
 
Accommodation and Restaurants sector decreased by 0.51%
Accommodation and Restaurant services showed a reduction of 0.51% as a result of the lower activity of the restaurants subsector (-1.35%); meanwhile, the accommodation subsector grew (8.69%). The contraction of the restaurants subsector was associated to the lower consumption of the consumers, closure of premises and decrease of the delivery service. The restaurants business (-2.80%) were the more affected, premises such as Cevicherías, meats and grills, fast foods, restaurants, Chifas and Pollerías (Grilled Chicken restaurants); among others.  
 
Nevertheless, the area of concessionaires services (2.22%), beverage services (2.16%) and catering services (15.95%). 
 
Telecommunications and Other Services of Information sector contracted by 4.57%
The Telecommunications and Other Services of Information sector reduced by 4.57% due to the result of the telecommunications (-4.48%) and other services of information (-5.06%) subsector. In the telecommunications subsector, the area of data transmission services (-22.0%) and telephone services (-5.9%) contracted. Meanwhile, the Internet services and pay-tv (0.1%) increased. At the same time, the other information services subsector was affected due to the lower requirement of publishing activities (-9.6%), television and radio programming (-8.6%) and computer programing (-3.3%).
 
Production of Financing and Insurance sector reduced by 8.93%
The Financing and Insurance sector registered a decrease of 8.93% due to the lower placement of credits (-7.12%) and collection of deposits (-7.62%) of the multiple banking. According to destination segment, the credits targeted to big, medium, small and micro-enterprises (-12.7%) and mortgage credits (-0.3%) decreased; meanwhile consumption credits (6.9%) grew.
 
By economic sectors, there were granted lower credits to the commerce, manufacturing, real estate activities, business and rental activities; agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry, transportation, storage and communications and electricity gas and water sector and construction. The reduction of deposits was reported in the segments of saving deposits (-20.0%), deposits of Compensation for Time of Service (-18.9%) and demand deposits (-16.5%); meanwhile, the term grew (19.7%).
 
Production of Services Provided to Companies reduced by 2.18%
The Services Provided to Companies sector decreased by 2.18% based in the contraction of travel agencies and tour operators (-12.0%), professional, scientific and technical activities (-2.6%) and activities of administrative and support services (-2.2%); nevertheless, the publicity and market research service grew (4.7%). 
 
Government services increased by 3.06%
During September of this year, the government services grew 3.06%, before the greater services provided by the institutions of Public Administration (3.0%), Defense (3.3%) and other government services (3.4%).
