During September of 2023, the volume imported of raw material and intermediate products increased by 4.3%, compared to the same month of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Evolution of Exports and Imports.

This result was based in the greater demand of fuels, lubricants and allied products (23.4%), due to the greater domestic consumption of  crude oil (77.9%), diesel B2 (39.9%), gasoline without tetra ethylene for automobile (32.3%), liquid propane gas (18.1%), among others.

On the other hand, the volume imported of raw materials and intermediate products for industries decreased due to the lower transactions of hard yellow corn (-19.3%), polypropylene in primary forms (-22.1%), polyethylene of low density (-6.3%), among others. Also reduced the imports of raw materials and intermediate products for agriculture such as oilcakes and solid waste for the extraction of soybean oil (-9.5%) and preparation used for feeding animals (-10.3%).

Total volume imported of goods increased by 0.6%
In September of 2023, the imports increased by 0.6%, compared to the same month of the last year. Likewise, during the period January-September of 2023, the volume imported registered a decrease of 3.6%, due to the lower income of raw materials and intermediate products (-5.7%), as well as capital goods and construction materials (-3.4%).

The volume imported of capital goods and construction materials decreased by 2.6%
The INEI informed that the volume imported of capital goods and construction materials decreased by 2.6% due to lower purchases in the sector capital goods for the industry (-6.2%), construction materials (-14.0%) and capital goods for agriculture (-4.1%).

Among the capital goods for industry that showed negative results were: machines for data processing of weight lower or equal to 10 Kg (-26.3%), power shovels, diggers, loaders and wheel loaders (-34.5%) and units of digital process, excluding machines for data processing (-29.5%). In addition, the consumption of construction materials was affected such as tubes and hollow profiles of square or rectangular cross-section (-17.1%), as well as the non-alloy steel or iron bar with indentations and ribs (-70.6%).

In addition, the imports of capital goods for agriculture reduced due to the lower acquisition of Caterpillar tractor of power higher than 75 KW and lower or equal to 130 KW (-21.1%) and Caterpillar tractor of power greater than 37 KW and lower or equal to  75 KW (-24.2%). On the other hand, the purchase of transportation equipment increased by 12.8%, due to the increase in the commercialization of trucks (6.1%), road tractor for semi-trailer (12.1%) and pneumatics of those used in autobuses or trucks (35.0%).

Acquisition of consumption goods decreased by 3.1%
During September of 2023, the import of consumption goods reduced by 3.1%, compared with September of the year 2022, as a result of the lower level of purchases of durable consumption goods (-3.9%) and non-durable consumption goods (-2.5%). The durable consumption goods with lower demand are the TVs automobiles (-13.0%), and the TVs (-29.7%) and plastic manufactories (-3.6%). In the case of non-durable goods were other footwear (-19.3%), and powder, granulated or solid concentrated milk (-6.1%), footwear of textile material and rubber or plastic sole (-49.0%), among the main ones.

Total volume exported of goods decreased by 2.8%
The INEI informed that the total volume exported of goods decreased by 2.8%, compared with the same month of 2022, due to the lower shipments of non-traditional products (-11.6%); meanwhile, the shipments of traditional products grew (0.5%), due to the increase of the mining activity (1.9%), as well as petroleum and natural gas (26.2%).

Therefore, the volume exported of fishing traditional products reduced by 66.7%, compared to the same month of the last year, due to the lower shipments of fishmeal (-65.5%) and fishing oil (-71.9%). Additionally, the agricultural volume exported contracted by 11.6%, mainly by the lower sale of coffee (-5.5%) and of sugar (-88.3%).

On the other hand, the mining activity grew outstanding the production of copper (6.0%), gold (3.7%), iron (21.9%) and molybdenum (23.7%); nevertheless, the production of zinc (-21.6%), lead (-16.2%) and tin (-8.9%) reduced. Likewise, the production of petroleum and natural gas grew (26.2%).

Volume exported of non-traditional products decreased by 11.6%
During the month under study, the volume exported of non-traditional products reduced by 11.6%, by comparing with the same month of the last year; due to the negative variation of the agricultural (-19.0%), chemical (-15.5%), textile (-19.3%), metal-mechanic (-13.6%), iron and steel industries (-3.7%) and fishing (-1.3%) sectors.

This negative result in the agricultural sector was due to the lower shipments of blueberries (-33.4%), asparagus (-16.3%), avocados (-51.0%), among others. As well as the lower shipments of sulphuric acid (-14.1%), zinc oxide (-28.8%) and plates of polypropylene polymer (-3.3%) in the chemical sector.

Likewise, in the textile sector reduced the shipments of cotton T-shirts (-38.2%), cotton knit shirt (-29.6%) and shirts of man-made fibers (-3.5%). In the metal-mechanic sector were reported lower sales of well-drilling machines (-21.3%) and parts of machines and devices for elevation, excavation, smoothing and leveling (-24.2%).

In the iron and Steel industry sector were registered lower sales of sheets and strips of refined copper (-21.7%), as well as bars and profiles of refined copper (-20.9%). Likewise, in the fishing sector decreased the shipments of mussels, scallops, frozen (-28.3%); squid and cuttlefishes (-45.6%); as well as preparations and canned fish (-9.9%).
