Production of the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased 8.82% during September of this year

The Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased by 8.82%, in September of 2023, due to the expansion of the metal-mining activity (7.30%) and the hydrocarbons subsector (19.64%). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and informatics (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of the Economic Activity. With this result, this sector added eight months of positive behavior.
This performance was supported mainly in the greater production of molybdenum (40.5%), copper (2.0%), gold (12.9%), zinc (8.6%) and iron (25.2%); meanwhile, the silver production decreased (-0.8%). The greater volume of natural gas liquids (31.7%) and natural gas (33.6%) determined the progress of the hydrocarbons subsector.
The Fishing sector increased by 16.92%
The Fishing sector grew 16.92%, due to the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (29.77%), for direct human consumption for canning (154.7%), consumption in fresh state (28.4%) and frozen (27.2%); meanwhile, it decreased for curing (-43.3%).
On the other hand, the fishing for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil) registered an extraction of 436 tons that against the 953 tons reported in September of the year 2022, shows a decrease of 54.24%
In addition, the continental origin fishing decreased 13.70%, due to the lower capture of species for consumption in fresh state, frozen and curing.
Electricity generation increased by 3.06%
According to preliminary figures as of October 30 of this year, the electricity generation showed a progress of 3.06%, as a result of the increase of thermoelectric (1.8%), hydroelectric (1.6%) and renewable (25.5%) origin energy.
Among the companies that increased their production were: Empresa Generadora de Energía Junín (Egejunín), Orazul Energy Perú, Enel Generación Perú, Statkraft Perú, Celepsa, Engie, Chinango, Sindicato Energético (Sinersa) and Generación Andina.
Domestic cement consumption decreased by 10.48%
The INEI informed that the domestic cement consumption reduced by 10.48% compared to the month of September 2022. This behavior was explained by the lower progress of private works and self-construction.
Consumer and mortgage loans for housing kept their dynamism
During September of 2023, the consumer loans totalized S/ 73,744 million, increasing by 12.25%. In addition, the mortgage loans totalized S/ 62,665 million, it means, it increased by 4.69% compared to September of the year 2022.
Meanwhile, the credits granted to corporations, big, medium, small and micro-companies totalized S/ 216,638 million, registering a decrease of 8.33% compared to the same month of the last year.
In addition, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking reached 6,539 thousand units and showed a reduction of 1.09% compared to the same month of the last year.
The total import value decreased by 9.23%
With information available as of October 24 of this year, in September of 2023, the total import value reached US$ 4,650 million and presented a reduction of 9.23% compared to the value registered in September 2022.
According to use or economic destination, the amount imported of consumption goods totalized US$ 982 million, showing a reduction of 11.36%; the acquisition of raw materials al intermediate products totalized US$ 2 448 million and decreased by 8.70%. Likewise, the import of capital goods and construction materials reached US$ 1 219 million, with a decrease of 8.59%, compared to September of the last year.
