Production of potable water in Lima Metropolitan area increased 3.0%

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of September of 2023 and according to the information provided by the National Service of Potable Water and Sewerage Service of Lima (SEDAPAL), the production of potable water in Lima Metropolitan area reached 63 million 827 thousand cubic meters (m3). This was a higher result in 3.0% compared to the registered in the same month of 2022 (61 million 974 thousand cubic meters).
River Rimac flow reduces
During the month of September of 2023 and according the information of the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI), the average flow of the Rimac River reached 15.36 m3/s a lower result in 14.1% and 27.4% compared to the registered in the same month of 2022 and its historic average, respectively.
In the technical report Environmental Statistics is stated that the average flow of the River Chillon reached 1.78 m3/s, a higher figure in 8.5% compared to the month of September of 2022; nevertheless, is was inferior in 14.4% compared to its historic average.
The river flow of the rivers of center Pacific Ocean watershed increases
During the month of September of this year, the rivers of the center zone of the Pacific Ocean watershed reported an increase in their flows. In fact, the flow of the Chancay-Huaral River totalized 6.65 m3/s that represented an increase of 3.1% and 35.4% compared to the same month of the last year and to its historic average, respectively. On the other hand, the flow of the Mala River reached 1.46 m3/s, higher amount in 11.5% and 15.9% compared to the month of September of 2022 and to historic average, respectively.
Precipitations decreased in the north zone of the Pacific Ocean watershed
During the month under analysis and according to the SENAMHI, a decrease in the average of the registered precipitations in the north zone of the Pacific Ocean watershed. Therefore, in the station Ayabaca the average of the precipitations reached 0.40 mm, an inferior quantity in 93.4% and 98.1% compared with the same month of the last year and to its historic average, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the Llapa Station the precipitations reached an average of 20.10 mm, which represented a reduction of 47.2% and 51.4%, compared to the amount reached in September of 2022 and to its historic average. Likewise, in the station Santa Cruz (27.50 mm) decreased by 47.6% and 48.3%. Meanwhile, in the station La Cruz there was no variation.
Likewise, the precipitations in the center zone of the Pacific Ocean watershed registered in the Matucana station (1.0 mm) were reduced in 23.1% compared to its historic average.
Puno, Arequipa and Tacna reported the greater quantity of days with frosts
During the month of September of 2023 and according to the monitoring of 43 stations of the SENAMHI, the departments of Puno, Arequipa and Tacna registered greater number of days with frosts. Meanwhile, in the departments of Ayacucho, Junín, Cajamarca and Moquegua the frosts were presented in lower number of days.
The stations that had a greater number of days with meteorological frosts were: Mazo Cruz, Imata, Tisco, Crucero Alto, Santa Lucia and Porpera (30 days, each one), Pampahuta, Pillones, Bocatoma, Las Salinas, Sibayo, Caylloma and Macusani (29 days, each one), Cojata and Ananea (28 days, each one), Paucarani (26 days), Laraqueri and Crucero (24 days, each one), Chuquibambilla, Santa Rosa and Pampa de Arrieros (23 days, each one), Laive (22 days), Pizacoma (21 days), Progreso (20 days).
Lower number of days with meteorological frosts were reported in: Juliaca (19 days), Lampa and Putina (18 days, each one), Mañazo (17 days), Desaguadero (16 days), Pucara, Huancane, Taraco and Santo Tomas (15 days, each one), Ilave and Ichuña (13 days, each one), Capachica, Lally, Ayaviri and Arapa (12 days, each one), Vilcashuaman and La Victoria (11 days, each one), Junín and Huaraya Moho (10 days, each one).
Emergencies at national level increased 61.2%
During the ninth month of the year and according to the information of the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI), at national level were registered 519 emergencies, a superior amount in 61.2% compared to the month of September of 2022. The emergencies left 1,764 affected people, 2014 affected households, 149 destroyed households and 1257 hectares of crops lost.
The greater number of emergencies took place in the departments of: Huancavelica (84), Cusco (53), Ucayali (36), Cajamarca (33), Lima (32), San Martin and Loreto (30 each one), Ayacucho (29), Apurímac (25), Pasco (23), Puno (22), Amazonas (21), Piura (19), Ancash (18), Huánuco (12), Ica (11), Madre de Dios (8), Constitutional Province of Callao, Tumbes and Arequipa (6 each one) Tacna (5), Lambayeque (4), La Libertad and Junín (3 each one) and in Moquegua no emergencies were registered.
The emergencies were caused mainly by: urban fires (155), strong winds (148), temporal (winds with rains) (50), forest fires (46), water deficit (27), heavy rains (24), frosts (20), temperature decrease (8), hailstorms (7), collapsing house (6), landslides and flood by channels over flood (5 in each case), snowfalls (4), cold spells (3), bank erosion, hills collapse and hailstorms (2 in each case), earthquakes, environmental contamination of soil, reptation, pests and collapse due to antiquity (1 in each case).
