Blueberry production decreased in the main producing departments during August of 2023

In August of 2023, the blueberry production reached 20 thousand 137 tons registering a contraction of 52.0%, at national level, compared to the same month of the year 2022, due to lower harvested area that were affected by the adverse weather conditions that happened in the north coast of the country.
The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook, stated that the blueberry production intended to foreign market and agribusiness, reduced in the main producing departments, such as Piura (-79.7%), Lambayeque (-78.5%) and La Libertad (-50.1%).
In addition, in the departments of Ancash (-33.3%) and Lima (-12.5%) decreased. On the other hand, Moquegua (22.9%) and Ica (4.2%) increased.
The Departments of San Martín and Cajamarca accounted for 55.4% of the total coffee production
Coffee production, crops of high foreign demand, it outstood in San Martín (120.5%) and Cajamarca (104.1%), by showing a participation of 55.4% of the total produced in the country. Likewise, in Ucayali (47.3%), La Libertad (21.5%), Puno (15.1%) and Junín (1.1%) increased. Meanwhile, in Ayacucho (-56.3%), Lambayeque (-53.8%), Piura (-24.0%) and Amazonas (-20.8%), among others decreased.
It is worth to mention that the national production of this grain totalized 45 thousand 497 tons and expanded in 46.4% compared to the same month of 2022, explained by greater crops performed, favored by the good weather conditions that allowed the development of the crop in its different stages.
Poultry production decreased in 22 departments
The poultry production presented a negative behavior in 22 departments, mainly in the producing areas of Arequipa (-4.0%) and La Libertad (-3.5%). Nevertheless, it grew in Lima (0.7%), main producer that concentrated the 56.7% of the national total; in addition in Ica increased (1.4%).
Across the country, the poultry production reduced by 1.1% compared to the same month of the last year, associated to the lower placement of BB chickens of the meat production line, due to the high prices of the inputs for birds feeding, such as soybean and hard yellow corn.
The Department of Moquegua led the copper production
In August of 2023, the copper production was led by the significant contribution of the department of Moquegua (199.1%), followed in importance by Tacna (25.0%), Cusco (12.5%), Ica (11.9%) and Arequipa (10.2%) that together contributed with the 60.7% of the total production of this mineral.
Nevertheless, in Junín (-62.0%), Ayacucho (-33.3%), Ancash (-21.0%), Apurímac (-11.4%) and Cajamarca (-10.2%) contracted.
At national level, the copper production increased by 7.5% compared to August of 2022 and accumulated 12 months of positive behavior. In this respect, the contribution of the company Anglo American Quellaveco outstood, added to the volumes obtained in the companies Cerro Verde, Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Sociedad Minera El Brocal, Marcobre, Hudbay Perú, Nexa Resources Perú and Minera Antapaccay.
The electricity production increased by 3.2%
The production of electric energy grew by 3.2%, during August of the current year, compared to the same month of 2022 driven by the greater generation of thermic origin energy in the power stations of Santa Rosa, Santa Rosa II, Ventanilla, Chilca I, Nepi and Fenix. In addittion, the generation of non-conventional renewable sources of energy (Eolic energy and solar). Meanwhile, the production of hydraulic energy decreased reflected in the low generation registered in the power stations of Mantaro, Restitución and Cerro del Águila, among others.
In this favorable performance outstood Moquegua (340.9%), Ica (13.9%) and Lima (8.0%), representing together the 68.9% of the total generated. Nevertheless, Huánuco (-78.5%), Puno (-32.3%), Cajamarca (-24.6%), Junín (-21.0%), Piura (-18.9%) and Huancavelica (-12.1%), among others, presented negative results.
Collected revenues by internal taxes decreased by 0.9%
During the eight month of 2023, the collected revenues by internal taxes slightly decreased by 0.9% compared to the registered in August of 2022, determined by the reduced payments of third category income tax and the fuel consumption selective tax.
Therefore, 17 departments reported a lower collection of taxes, influencing in this unfavorable behavior, the collection gathered in Ica (-13.3%), Piura (-7.4%), Arequipa (-3.7%) and Lima (-1.0%). On the other hand, in Tumbes (26.1%), La Libertad (23.4%), Apurímac (16.4%), Cajamarca (5.6%), Madre de Dios (3.8%), Moquegua (1.0%) and Lambayeque (0.4%) increased.
