Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles at national level reported a slight increase of 0.4% in August of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of August of 2023, the movement of heavy-duty units registered through the tollbooths in the country, slightly increased by 0.4% compared to the same month of 2022. It is worth to mention that in the result influenced the greater demand of cargo transportation service for Mining, Commerce and Fishing activities. This demand was attenuated by the lower requirement of service in the Construction sectors due to the decrease of the private and public investment; and Agribusiness as a consequence of the adverse climatic conditions, as well as the manufacturing industry.
In the technical report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooths indicates that the tollbooths with increased traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles were, to the north, San Martín (Pongo 12.5%, Moyobamba 8.9% and Aguas Claras 1.3%); and in the south, Moquegua (Ilo 32.9% and Pampa Cuéllar 7.6%), Arequipa (Matarani-Concesión 13.8% and Uchumayo-Concesión 6.3%), Ica (Marcona 4.0% and Jahuay Chincha 0.2%) and Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 2.5%).
Meanwhile, in the center, it decreased in Junín (Casaracra -10.9% and Quiulla -1.4%) and Lima (Fortaleza -6.2%, Corcona -6.1%, El Paraíso -5.1%, Serpentine of Pasamayo -5.1% and Variant of Pasamayo -4.1%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty cargo vehicles of 3 to 7 axle grew 1.0%
During August of 2023, the traffic flow of heavy-duty trucks of 3 to 7 axle increased by 1.0% compared with the same month of 2022, determined by the greater traffic flow of vehicles such as, trailers, semitrailers and heavy-duty cargo trucks of 3 axle (2.7%), 5 axle (2.3%), 6 axle (0.05%) and 7 axle (3.4%); nevertheless, the traffic flow of 4 –axle vehicles decreased (-1.8%).
Traffic flow of vehicles at national level increased 2.7%
During the month under analysis, the National Rate of Vehicular Flow that registered the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths of the country increased 2.7%, compared to August of 2022, explained by the greater traffic flow of heavy-duty (0.4%) and light-duty (4.5%) vehicles. During the last twelve months (September 2022 – August 2023) this indicator increased by 3.2%.
Traffic flow of light-duty vehicles increased 4.5%
The traffic flow of light-duty vehicles reported through the tollbooths of the country, during August of 2023, grew by 4.5% compared to the same month of 2022. This behavior was encouraged by the increase of movement of people at national level, on the occasion of the religious festivities of Santa Rosa de Lima and different patron saint celebrations. In addition, of other activities organized on the occasion of the National Day of the Peruvian Coffee and other events, which prompted the favorable performance of the activities of Commerce, Accommodation and Entertainment.
The tollbooths with higher traffic flow were to the north, San Martín (Moyobamba 60.2% and Pongo 0.2%) and Piura (Chulucanas 4.4%, Paita 1.7%); in the south, Arequipa (Uchumayo-Concesión 7.1% and Matarani-Concesión 6.0%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuéllar 5.6%) and Ica (Marcona 1.4%); and in the center, Lima (Variant of Pasamayo 3.3% and El Paraíso 0.1%).
