Commercial activity grew 2.83% in August 2023

Commerce sector in August 2023 registered an increase of 2.83%, compared to the same month of the last year, as a result of the increase of the wholesale trade, the retail trade and the automotive trade, within the continuity of the economic activities. During the first eight months of the year, the commerce sector accumulates a progress of 2.74%.

The wholesale trade grew by 2.63%, due to the increase in the sale of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and derived products before the demand of fuels and lubricating oils of the industry and mining sectors, as well as the gas stations of retail sale.

Likewise, the sale of other type of machinery and equipment increased due to the purchase orders of the mining, construction, industry and health sectors as well as the office equipment. In addition, it grew the sale of other household goods such as pharmaceutical and medicinal products, perfumery, cosmetics and personal care articles, tableware, glassware and photography articles.

The non-specialized sale grew before a greater commercialization of natural products, livestock pharmacological products and for pets, mineral transporting conveyer belts, security electronic appliances, hair products, industrial and domestic hygiene products.

Also registered a good performance the sale of metals and metal ores driven by the greater production volume of copper, zinc, gold and iron. The same trend reported the sale of telecommunications electronic equipment and its parts before the demand of products such as parabolic antennas, physical telephonic cards, access networks, optic fiber and security, video surveillance, electronic security systems and equipment of portable radio.

Nevertheless, the wholesale trade of construction materials and the sale of waste or scrap and other products decreased.

The retail trade increased by 3.57%, supported in the sale of fuels and lubricants in the gas stations, due to the opening of new gas stations and the vehicular traffic congestion.

Likewise, the sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal, cosmetics and toiletries products grew because of the opening of new premises and commercial strategies. Also increased other sale of new products in specialized warehouses due to greater demand of medicinal veterinary, seeds, fertilizers, agrochemicals, glasses frames, watches and jewelry products. Also followed the same trend, the sale by mail and by internet before the continuous communication of campaigns and improvements in the commercial management.

In addition the retail sale of household appliances, furniture, lighting fixtures and other articles for the household based in the commercialization of household appliances, domestic use furniture, security systems, musical, instruments and air conditioning units. Likewise, the sale of computers, peripheral units, informatics programs and telecommunication equipment increased due to the greater rotation of computers and telephony, audio and electronic articles. In addition, an increase was registered in the sale of beverages in specialized warehouses because of greater demand.

In contrast, it decreased the sale in supermarkets and minimarkets, the sale in department stores and the retail sale of sports articles in specialized stores.

The automotive commerce registered an increase of 2.13%, mainly because of a greater commercialization of light-duty vehicles (pick up, vans, trucks, sportive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles) and heavy-duty vehicles (tractor units, mini-bus and omnibus), with the support of fairs such as Expomotor, commercial campaigns and public-private tenders. In the same way, the sector of maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles grew before the greater accidents due to the extension of the vehicle fleet and the washing and polishing services. On the other hand, it contracted the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles, its parts and accessories, the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles.
