Restaurants activity decreased by 0.73% in August of 2023

The restaurants activity (foods and beverages service) reduced by 0.73%, affected by the closure of premises, specific products shortage and the consequent price increase. The sector that registers a cumulative growth of 4.03% during the period of January to August 2023.

The group of restaurants showed a decrease of 1.80%, by the contraction in demand in chicken grill restaurants (Pollerías), touristic restaurants, Chifas (Chinese food restaurants), fast food, meats and grills, Italian food and coffee restaurants, as a consequence of the closure of premises and the increase of prices of certain foods. The same trend registered the businesses of creole food, international food, pizza restaurants, confectioneries due to the lower inflow of banqueters and the reduction of delivery service.

The beverage service registered a growth of 1.43%, due to the good performance of the sectors juice shops, bars, coffee shops and discos, with diversity in cold and hot beverages, plant extracts, and snacks, infusions, holding of theme parties, live shows and extension of schedules, promotions and dissemination by social networks. Contributed the participation in fairs such as “Festiproduce” and “Expocafé Villa Rica” held in Lima, “II Festival y Concurso Regional de Café Piurano” held in Piura and the “XXII Festival del Café 2023” in Moyobamba, on the occasion of the celebration of the National Day of Peruvian Coffee.

Other foods service activities registered an increase of 0.99%, reflected in the activity of food concessionaires due to the continuity and contracts acquisition for the attention in staff canteens of the fishing, mining, electric, financing, schools, hospitals and clinic sectors. Likewise, the food concessionaires for contractors (food service to air and inland transportation companies) slightly grew linked to the travels frequency in long holiday weekend due to the celebration of the Day of Santa Rosa de Lima and other holidays of the month.

Supply of foods by ordering (catering) grew 17.23% in August, by greater request of preparation and distribution of foods for events, in the attention of buffets, cocktails, corporative breakfasts and box of refreshments in business and social events, anniversaries and others.
