Employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 208 thousand 300 persons in the quarter July- August- September 2023

According to the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), in the mobile quarter July-August-September of 2023, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 208 thousand 300 persons, increasing 4.5%  (225 thousand 400 persons) compared with the same mobile quarter of the year 2022. Likewise, it increased by 5.7% (280 thousand 900 persons) compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2019. This was informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of the Labour Market in Lima Metropolitan area.
 
Likewise, the population with suitable employment totalized 3 million 74 thousand 300 persons and increased by 5.3% (154 thousand 600 persons) compared with the same period of the year 2022. Meanwhile, compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2019, decreased by 3.2% (-102 thousand 700 persons).
 
On the other hand, the underemployed population increased by 3.4% (70 thousand 800 persons) compared with the same mobile quarter of the year 2022 and by 21.9% (383 thousand 600 persons), compared with the same mobile quarter of the year 2019.
  
Female employed population increased by 6.1% 
During the mobile quarter under study, the female employed population increased by 6.1% (136 thousand 800) higher in 2.9 percentage points compared to the increase of the male employed population by 3.2% (88 thousand 500 persons).
 
From the total employed population of Lima Metropolitan area, 54.2% (2 million 823 thousand) comprises men and 45.8% (2 million 385 thousand 200) comprises women.
 
The employed population of 45 years old and older increased by 13.2%
By age groups, the employed population of 45 years old and older increased by 13.2% (224 thousand persons); meanwhile that the population of 25 to 44 years old increased by 1.5% (37 thousand 600 persons); while the employed population under 25 years old decreased by 4.9% (-36 thousand 300 persons).
 
The employed population with superior education level increased 
During the mobile quarter under analysis compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2022, the employed population with non-university superior education level increased by  16.0% (157 thousand 200 persons) and those that achieved to study university education level increased by 15.2% (202 thousand 900 persons). Meanwhile, the employed population with high-school education level increased by 5.8% (-132 thousand 300 persons) and by 0.7% (-2 thousand 500 persons) those that have elementary or lower education level.
 
The employed population of the Services and Commerce sectors increased
During the mobile quarter July-August-September of 2023, the employed population in the Services sector grew by 7.9% (213 thousand 700 persons) and in the Commerce sector grew by 7.7% (87 thousand persons). Nevertheless, it decreased in Manufacturing by 5.9% (-41 thousand persons) and Construction by 10.6% (-43 thousand 800 persons).
 
The unemployment affected the 6.7% economically active population of Lima Metropolitan area
During the mobile quarter July-August-September of 2023, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 6.7% being 1.0 percentage point lower to the reported in the same mobile quarter of the year 2022 (7.7%). In the mobile quarter under analysis, it is estimated in 375 thousand 900 persons seeking employment.
 
Average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area increased by 11.4%
The INEI informed that the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 1,943.5 Soles during the mobile quarter July-August-September of 2023, figure that compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2022, increased by 11.4%. Likewise, compared to the same quarter of the year 2019, grew by 11.5%.
