Production of the Mining and Hydrocarbons grew 5.17% In August of this year

The Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased 5.17%, in August of 2023, due to the positive result of the metal mining activities (4.63%) and hydrocarbons (9.08%). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of the Economy Activity.
In this result influenced the greater volume of copper (7.5%), zinc (6.8%), gold (8.3%) and iron (17.5%) production. Meanwhile, it decreased the silver (-4.1%) and molybdenum (-24.4%) production.
Likewise, the hydrocarbons subsector recovered based on the greater exploitation of natural gas liquids (23.7%) and natural gas (16.0%). Nevertheless, the crude oil decreased (-12.5%).
Fishing sector increased by 49.14%
The production of Fishing sector grew 49.14%, driven by the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (66.02%), intended for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fish meal and fish oil) by totalizing a capture volume of 182 785 tons, against the 35 295 tons reported in the same month of the last year.
The anchovy landing, formed part of the exploratory fishing performed in the North-center zone of the coastline, mainly in the ports of Chicama and Chimbote, which together represents the 76% of the total fishing of this resource.
Likewise, the fishing for direct human consumption increased by 17.99%, due to the greater capture of species intended to the preparation of canning (67.5%), consumption in fresh state (20.5%) and frozen (19.5%). Nevertheless, the landing focused to the preparation of curing (-66.0%) decreased.
On the other hand, the fishing of continental origin progressed by 0.90%, registering an increase in the extraction of species for fresh state consumption.
Generation of electricity increased by 3.22%
According to preliminary figures, during September of this year, the generation of electricity showed a growth of 3.22%, associated to the greater generation of thermoelectric origin energy (16.8%) and renewable energies (27.9%); nevertheless, the generation of hydroelectric origin energy (-19.0%) contracted.
Among the companies that outstood by its greater production were Enel Generación Perú, Termoselva, Engie, SDF Energía, Sudamericana de Energía Piura, Fenix Power Perú, Termochilca, Kallpa Generación and Enel Generación Piura.
The domestic cement consumption decreased by 9.45%
During the month of August of 2023, the domestic cement consumption reduced by 9.45% compared to the month of August of 2022 and showed 12 months in a row of unfavorable results before the lower progress of private works and of self-construction.
Consumer loans remained the increasing trend
The INEI informed that the consumer loans placed in S/ 73,678 million, increasing in 13.21% compared to the same month of the last years. The mortgage loans increased by S/ 62,017 million; it means, 4.59% more than the same month of the year 2022.
On the contrary, the credits generated to big, medium, and small and micro-enterprises, registered a reduction of 8.74%, by placing in S/215,569 million.
On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking placed in 6,553 thousand units, reducing in 1.56%, compared to the same month of the last year.
Total amount imported decreased by 17.23%
With information available as of September 18 of this year, in August of 2023, the total amount imported was of US$ 4 645 million, registering a reduction of 17.23%, compared with the value registered in August 2022.
In this result influenced the lower purchase of raw materials and intermediate products by reaching US$ 2,296 million, decreasing by 27.42%, compared to the value registered in August 2022. Followed by the import of capital goods and construction materials that totalized US$ 1,262 million, lower amount in 5.42%, compared with the value registered in August of 2022. In addition, the purchase of consumption goods was lower in 2.90% with an import value of US$ 1,082 million.
