In the second quarter of 2023 increased the population that sought medical care

During the quarter April-May-June of 2023, the population with some health problem that sought medical care was of 45.0%, a higher figure in 7.9 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2022 (37.1%). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Living Conditions in Peru, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO).
According to the place or medical facility, 17.4% sought medical care in pharmacy or apothecary, 14.5% went to Ministry of Health (MINSA) facilities, 5.8% went to a private practice and the 5.6% went to the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud) facilities.
By residence area, in the urban area the place or medical facility of greater medical consulting was the pharmacy or apothecary (17.6%), followed by MINSA (12.0%). Meanwhile, in the rural area the 24.0% sought medical care in MINSA facilities and the 16.4% in pharmacy or apothecary.
87.5% of the population of the country accessed to some health insurance
During the second quarter of 2023, 87.5% of the population interviewed declared they have some health insurance, a higher figure in 3.0 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (84.5%) and compared to the same quarter of 2019 was greater in 10.6 percentage points (76.9%).
According to residence area, this percentage was higher in the rural area (92.9%), than in the urban area (86.1%) by increasing in 2.8 y 3.0 percentage points, respectively.
58.6% of the population affiliated to a health insurance accessed to the Comprehensive Health Insurance
The INEI informed that the total of the population affiliated to some type of health insurance, the greater percentage only accessed to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), the 58.6% at national level, being 1.6 percentage points higher to the registered in the second quarter of the year 2022.
Likewise, this access reached the 51.7% in the urban area and the 86.7% of the rural area, with increases of 1.5 y 2.7 percentage points, respectively.
58.6% of the population access to the financial system
According to the results obtained, in the second quarter of 2023, the 58.6% of the population aged 18 years old and over have some account in the financial system (savings account or remuneration account, time deposit account or current account), it means, 4.7 percentage points more than in the same quarter of the year 2022 (53.9%).
The greater proportion of the population with some account in the financial system was registered in the group of adults aged 30 to 44 years old (63.7%), followed by the young people aged 18 to 29 years old (62.4%). Compared to the second quarter of the year 2022, were reported increases highly significant of 3.9 and 6.9 percentage points, respectively.
Likewise, according to the residence area, presented results highly significant in all the age groups, compared to the same quarter of the year 2022.
96.9% of the population have access to the public electric lighting network
During the quarter under analysis, April-May-June of the year 2023, 96.9% of the population have access to the electric energy by public network. In the urban area was of 99.3% and in the rural area was of 87.1%. Compared to the same quarter of the year 2022, there were no significant variations.
Compared the indicator with the quarter April-May-June of the year 2019, the access of public electric lighting increased in the rural area in 3.6 percentage points.
