Employed population in Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 225 thousand 600 persons in the quarter of June-July-August of this year

During the mobile quarter June-July-August of 2023, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 225 thousand 600 persons, which compared with the same mobile quarter of the year 2022 increased by 4.2% (210 thousand 200 persons). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
Likewise, it was informed that when comparing this result of the quarter under study, with the same mobile quarter of the year 2019 (pre pandemic), the employed population overcame by 6.0% (293 thousand 500 persons).
According to employment levels, those that have suitable employment totalized 3 million 82 thousand 400 persons, growing by 7.8% (222 thousand 500 persons) compared to the same quarter of the year 2022. Meanwhile, compared to the year 2019 it decreased by 3.2% (-102 thousand 600 persons).
On the other hand, the underemployed population decreased by 0.6% (-12 thousand 500 persons) compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2022, while compared to the quarter June-July-August of 2019, grew by 22.7% (396 thousand persons).
The female employed population increased by 5.7%
In the mobile quarter under analysis, compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2022, the female employed population increased by 5.7% (129 thousand 500 persons) and the male employed population increased by 3.0% (80 thousand 700 persons).
The employed population aged 45 years old and over increased by 12.3%
According to age group, the employed population aged 45 years old and over grew by 12.3% (209 thousand 100 persons), followed by the population aged 25 to 44 years old by 2.4% (61 thousand 200 persons). Meanwhile, the employed population under 25 years reduced by 7.7% (-60 thousand 300 persons).
The employed population with superior education grew
The employed population with non-university superior education increased by 20.9% (200 thousand 700 persons) and those that achieved to study university education in 20.8% (260 thousand 800 persons). Meanwhile, it decreased by 9.4% (-227 thousand 400 persons) the employed population with high-school education and by 6.2% (-23 thousand 900 persons) those that have elementary education level or lower level.
The employment grew by 6.3% in the activity Services
During the mobile quarter June-July-August of 2023, the employed population in the branch of Services increased by 6.3% (172 thousand 200 persons), followed by Commerce in 5.4% (62 thousand persons) and Manufacture in 2.7% (17 thousand 500 persons), meanwhile, in the branch of Construction reduced in 13.7% (-58 thousand 900 persons).
The unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area was of 6.6%
During the quarter under study, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed by 6.6%, a lower figure in 0.7 percentage point to the registered in the same quarter of the year 2022 (7.3%). It is estimated in 371 thousand 500 the personas that actively seeking employment during the mobile quarter under the analysis. By comparing to the same mobile period of the year 2019, it grew in 0.8 percentage point.
Average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area increased by 14.7%
The INEI informed that the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area placed in S/. 1,950.60 Soles and increased in 14.7% compared to the same quarter of 2022 and compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2019, increased by 13.6%.
