Is increasing health care-seeking in women and men

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that according to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the second quarter of 2023, 40.9% of women and 36.4% of men with chronic health problems sought health care. Compared with the same quarter of 2022, the proportion of women (31.9%) and men (26.5%) that sought health care increased in 9.0 points and 9.9 percentage points, respectively.
According to age groups, it was observed that women (42.5%) and men (49.4%) aged 0 to 14 years old with chronic health problems, sought health care in greater proportion; followed by women (41.7%) and men (36.7%) aged 60 years old and older. Compared to the second quarter of the last year, it was appreciated an increase health-care seeking of the female and male population with health problems.
More women than men have access to a health insurance
The results of the ENAHO showed that during the second quarter of 2023, 89.0% of women have a health insurance, a higher figure in 3.0 percentage points, compared to men (86.0%). Compared to the same period of 2022, the access of women and men to a health insurance increased by 2.6 and 3.3 percentage points, respectively.
According to type of health insurance, it is noted that the 61.1% of women and the 56.1% of men have Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), meanwhile, the 23.5% and 24.2% of women and men, respectively, had access to Social Health Insurance (EsSalud) and those that have other type of health insurance, represented the 4.4% and 5.6% of women and men, respectively.
School attendance of boys and girls increases
According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the second quarter of this year, the school attendance of girls aged 3 to 5 years old reached 93.7% and those of boys reached 92.3%; which compared to the same period of the last year, represented an increase of 4.3 and 3.8 percentage points for girls and boys, respectively.
Meanwhile, the school attendance of boys and girls aged 6 to 11 years old that are in elementary education level reached 98.8% and 99.0%, respectively. Compared to the same period of the last year, it is noted that the school attendance to this educational level increased by 1.1 percentage points in the girls and by 0.8 percentage point in boys.
For its part, the school attendance of male adolescents to high-school education level reached 90.0%, a higher figure in 4.5 percentage points compared to the same period of 2022; and the school attendance of female adolescents reached 89.6%, it did not register a significant variation, compared to the second quarter of the last year.
More women than men with university education have access to the Internet
During the period under analysis, 98.3% of women with university superior education accessed to the Internet, higher figure in 0.5 percentage point compared to that of men with the same educational level (97.8%). Regarding the second quarter of 2022, it is noted that the access to the Internet of women and men with university education level grew by 1.3 and 1.1 percentage points respectively.
Meanwhile, women and men with non-university superior education that used the Internet represented the 96.0% and 95.7%, respectively. Among those that have high school education level, women and men that accessed the Internet reached the 85.8% and 86.6%, respectively and in those with elementary education level that accessed the Internet, women reached 45.8% and men 52.2%.
Women and men have access to the Internet through a cellphone in the same proportion
During the second quarter of 2023, 90.6% of women and men accessed to the Internet through a cellphone (with data plan and without data plan), 19.2% and 18.4% of women and men did it through a laptop and 15.1% of women and 18.6% of men through a computer. Compared with the same quarter of the year 2022, it is observed that the Access to the Internet through cellphone of women and men increased by 0.3 and 2.2 percentage points, respectively.
Greater proportion of the male-headed households are benefited from food programs
During the period under analysis, at national level, 32.7% of the male-headed households and 28.4% of female-headed household had accessed to food programs. According to place of residence, it was noted that, in the 45.9% of the rural households male-headed has some member that accessed to food social programs meanwhile that in the female-headed households this proportion reached the 36.0%. While, in the urban area, the male-headed households with some member with access to social programs represented the 28.2% and the female-headed households represented the 26.6%.
More women than men work in Services and Commerce activities
According to the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN) during the first quarter of 2023, most of women work in the following activities Services (43.2%) and Commerce (26.4%) represented the 69.6%; meanwhile, in the case of men that worked in these sectors reached the 51.8%. In Agriculture/Fishing/Mining work, the 22.2% of women and the 27.8% of men while in Manufacturing work the 7.6% and the 8.9% of women and men, respectively. In Construction worked the 11.6% of men and just the 0.5% of women.
Unemployment rate of women is higher than that of men
During the first quarter of this year, the unemployment rate of women placed in 7.1% and that of women placed in 4.8%, being higher the women rate in 2.3 percentage points. While, in the same period of 2022, the female unemployment rate reached the 7.9% and the male one reached the 4.8%, with a difference of 3.1 percentage points, among others.
