Use of the Internet service reached 75.4% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old

During the second quarter of 2023, 75.4% of girls, boys and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years old, use the Internet service, at national level, a higher figure in 3.3 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report State of Childhood and Adolescence, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO).
By age group, 88.9% of the population aged 12 to 17 years old had access to the Internet, followed by the 61.1% that are between 6 to 11 years old registering increases of 3.6 percentage points, for each cases, compared to the same quarter of the last year.
87.6% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old had accessed the Internet through a cellphone
87.6% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old had accessed the Internet through a cellphone increasing by 2.4 percentage points. Likewise, 32.1% used the Internet in the household and the 7.2% in the educational establishment with increases of 2.5 and 5.4 percentage points, respectively compared with the second quarter of the last year.
16.7% of the population under 18 years old declared to have some health problem or chronic disease
During the second quarter of this year, 16.7% of the population under 18 years old declared to have some health problem or chronic disease, a lower figure by 0.4 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the last year.
It should be noted that the greater percentage of the population under 18 years old with some health problem or chronic disease are residents of the urban area (19.5%), than in the rural area (7.1%).
63.6% of the population under 18 years old with some health problem or chronic disease sought medical care for their ailment
At national level, 63.6% of the population under 18 years old that declared to have some health problem or chronic disease, sought medical care in some health establishment, practice that was increased by 6.3 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year.
From this total, 20.2% seek medical care at a MINSA health facility, 19.5% seek medical care at a pharmacy, registering an increase of 5.1 percentage points, and a decrease of 7.7 percentage points, respectively, compared to the second quarter of 2022. Meanwhile, the 36.4% did not seek medical care, to attend a health problem or chronic disease.
Access to some health insurance of the population under 18 years old went from 89.7% to 93.6%
From April to June of this year, 93.6% of the population under 18 years old accessed to some health insurance, a higher figure in 3.9 percentage points compared to the reported in the same quarter of the year 2022. Of this population, the 68.3% have only the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) and the 21.5% the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud), registering increases of 1.6 and 1.7 percentage points, respectively; compared to the same period of analysis.
In the rural area, the 96.7% are affiliated to a health insurance, registering a greater SIS coverage (91.8%). Meanwhile, in the urban area, from the 92.6% of the population have health insurance, from this total the 61.3% informed to be affiliated just to the SIS health insurance.
68.3% of the adolescent population aged 14 to 17 years old just study
During the second quarter under study, the 68.3% of the adolescent population aged 14 to 17 years old just study and presented a growth of 2.6 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year.
Likewise, the 15.2% study and help in some activity (business of the household or of a family member, performing household chores in other household, prepare products for sale, in the farm or animal husbandry, among others) increasing by 1.2 percentage points. Meanwhile, the 9.6% of the population do not study nor work and the 6.8% work, registering a decrease of 2.5 and 1.3 percentage points, respectively; compared to the same quarter of the year 2022.
51.5% of the households of the country have among its members at least just one person under 18 years old
At national level, the 51.5% of the households have among its members at least just one person under 18 years old, proportion that shows a decrease of 1.6 percentage points, compared with the same quarter of the last year. By residence area, the households with population under 18 years old of the urban area reached 51.9% and in the rural area 50.0%.
