Commercial activity increased 3.05% in June of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during June of 2023, the Commerce sector grew by 3.05% compared to the same month of the last year, driven by the wholesale commerce, retail commerce and automotive commerce, in a continuity environment of the economic activities.
In addition, the INEI informed that in the first semester of this year, this sector added a growth of 2.68%, compared to the same period of the year 2022.
The wholesale commerce increased by 2.88%
The wholesale commerce increased by 2.88% due to the increase in the sale of other type of machinery and equipment for the mining, industry (drilling tools, batteries, motors and spares) and health (medical and laboratory devices), as well as office equipment.
Likewise, the sale of solid, liquid and gas fuels and of allied products invigorated before the demand of fuels, lubricants and oils offered by the gas stations and industrial customers. Also, grew the sale of metals and metal ores due to the greater demand of ferrous metals (steel), to which it added best international quotations of silver, gold and lead.
This same trend showed the sale of computers, peripheral equipment and computer programs that increased due to greater contracts and tenders before the demand of technological equipment and software. As well as, the retailing of other household goods as pharmaceutical and medicinal products, perfumery, cosmetics, toiletries, stationary items, dishes, glassware and white goods, promoted headings due to the pre-campaign of National Holidays.
In addition, the sale of equipment of electronic security, veterinary products and electric equipment (of measure, welding and electric connectors) increased. Meanwhile, the sale of construction materials and hardware retailing and the sale of foods, beverages and tobacco.
The retail commerce increased by 3.69%
The retail commerce increased by 3.69% explained by the greater sale of fuel and lubricants for automotive vehicles in gas stations and opening of new service stations. Also by the commercialization of new products in specialized stores due to the demand of electric products (cables, switches, electric panel), agro-veterinarian, agro-chemical and watches and jewellery articles. Likewise, the sale of pharmaceutical, cosmetic and personal care products grew due to opening of new stores and marketing management.
In the same way, the sale of mail order and Internet grew due to purchase offers, promotions and purchases with credit cards with discounts on the occasion of the Father’s Day; as well as the sale of sports objects in specialized warehouses before the greater rotation of sport articles.
Likewise, the sale in vending machines for snacks and drinks; the sale of audio and video equipment in specialized stores increased due to the offer of products in liquidation of different trademarks. On the other hand, the sale in super-markets and mini-markets, as well as the sale in department stores, at the same time, the sale of hardware retailing, paints and glass products, decreased.
Automotive commerce grew 2.53%
In June of 2023, the automotive commerce grew by 2.53% explained by the greater commercialization of light duty vehicles (trucks, sport vehicles, SUV, pick up and trucks) and heavy duty vehicles (trucks, minibus and omnibus). Due to the opening of new stores and variety of portfolio, the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles due to greater demand of mechanical repair and car-wash service.
On the other hand, the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles and the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and its parts, pieces and accessories.
