This Sunday more than 9 million 700 thousand children celebrate the Children’s Day at national level

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), on the occasion of the Children’s Day, informed that in Peru there are 9 million 711 thousand children of 0 to 17 years old, who represented the 28.8% of the total population of the country (33 million 726), according to the estimations of the population for this year. According to sex, the 50.7% are male and the 49.3% are female.
By special age groups, the 9.9% of the children population is in the early childhood (from 0 to 5 years old), 9.5% is in the state of childhood (from 6 to 11 years old) and the 9.4% are adolescents (from 12 to 17 years old).
54.5% of the country’s households have among their members an under age
According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), in 54.5% of the country’s households are at least an underage as member of the household. In the urban area, this proportion reached 55.0% of the households and 52.4% in the rural area.
School attendance by educational levels
According to the results of the National Household Survey, 77.8% of the children aged 3 to 5 years old attend early education; 93.1% of the children aged 6 to 11 years old, studies in elementary level and 84.3% of the teenagers aged 12 to 16 years old attend high-school education level.
70.8% of the population of children and adolescents access to the Internet
At national level, 70.8% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old use the Internet. By sex, it is appreciated that this proportion reaches the 71.6% of women and the 70.0% of men of the mentioned group of age.
By geographic area, in the urban area children and adolescents that access the Internet represent the 78.9% and in the rural area represent the 46.2%.
Related to the use of the cellphone, 77.9% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old use that electronic device. By sex, females that use the cellphone reached 78.9% and males reached 77.0%.
92.5% of the children under 12 years old have health insurance
The ENAHO revealed that 92.5% of the population under 12 years old have health insurance. According to sex, it is observed that the proportion of boys with health insurance reached 92.5% and 92.4% in girls.
In the case of adolescents aged 12 to 17 years old, 88.9% had a health insurance. By sex, it is observed that the male adolescents that have this service represented the 89.1% and 88.7%.in female adolescents.
Greater proportion of children and adolescents have Comprehensive Health Insurance
According to the type of health insurance, in the case of the children under 12 years old, the 71.4% have Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) and the 18.5% have just EsSalud health insurance. In the case of adolescents, 67.6% have SIS and 18.9% have EsSalud insurance.
98 out of 100 children under 18 years old have DNI
Regarding the possession of the National Identity Card (DNI), 98.2% of the population under 18 years old have a national identity card (DNI). By residence place, the possession of the DNI in the urban area reached 98.3% and in the rural area reached 98.0%.
