Copper production highlighted in four departments providing the 51.1% during May of this year

In May of 2023, the copper production increased mainly in the departments of Moquegua (183.8%), Tacna (28.4%), Cusco (13.1%) and Arequipa (7.0%), participating together with the 51.1% of the total extracted. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and informatics (INEI) in the Technical Report “Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook”.
Meanwhile, the copper production decreased in Ancash (-15.2%), Lima (-12.7%), Junin (-12.2%), Cajamarca (-7.0%) and Puno (-5.5%).
At national level, the copper production grew by 36.1% compared to May of 2022, based on the contribution of the company Anglo American Quellaveco that started its operations since September of 2022. In addition, in the Mines Antapaccay, Marcobre, Cerro Verde, Southern Perú Copper Corporation and Mine Shouxin Perú increased the extraction of the red metal, as well as the base effect of the mine Las Bambas, before the null extraction, in May of 2022.
Three departments concentrated the 77.4% of the production of avocado at national level
The greater volumes of avocado production were reported in the departments Ica (57.5%), Lambayeque (45.3%) and La Libertad (14.8%), which concentrated the 77.4% of the total cultivation. Likewise, it grew in Piura (219.1%), Arequipa (43.7%), Huánuco (27.9%) and Loreto (1.1%). While, it contracted in Ayacucho (-41.0%), Ancash (-36.9%), Huancavelica (-8.4%), Junín (-1.3%) and Lima (-0.6%), among the most representatives.
In the country, the avocado production reached 221 thousand 129 tons and reported an increase of 20.4% compared with the same month of 2022, determined by the greater cultivated areas associated to the favorable temperatures registered that benefited the fruit growth.
Poultry production decreased by second month in a row in 22 departments
The poultry production slightly decreased by 0.9% compared to the May of 2022, explained by the lower placement of BB chicken, attributed to the high costs of food inputs.
This behavior impact negatively in the departments of Arequipa (-7.9%) and La Libertad (-6.1%), mainly.
It should be noted that it increased the poultry production in Lima (2.7%), first producer that concentrated the 54.5% of the national total.
Four departments contributed with the 61.4% of the total production of electric energy
In May of 2023, the increase of the electric energy production highlighted in the departments of Ica (49.9%), Huánuco (16.5%), Lima (16.1%) and Cajamarca (7.2%), which concentrated the 61.4% of the total generated; on the other hand, decreased in Ancash (-18.5%), Huancavelica (-16.5%), Piura (-8.6%), Junín (-2.9%) and Cusco (-0.8%), among others.
At national level, the electric energy production expanded by 6.3% compared to the same month of 2022, based on the growth of the power generation of thermal origin in the power stations of Chilca I, Kallpa, Santa Rosa, Las Flores and Olleros; added to the greater power generation of Eolic energy (non-conventional renewable).
Nevertheless, decreased the power generation of hydraulic origin in the power stations of Charcani V, Mantaro, Restitución, Huinco, Santa Teresa, Cheves, Yaupi, Cerro del Águila and Cañón del Pato. In addition, the production of solar energy decreased.
The incomes collected by internal taxes decreased in 16 departments
The incomes collected by internal taxes decreased in 16 departments, among them are the following departments Ica (-23.1%), Cusco (-20.1%), La Libertad (-13.0%), Lima (-4.2%) and Piura (-0.9%); nevertheless, together contributed with the 91.9% of the total collected. Likewise, it grew in Lambayeque (-19.8%) Junín (-10.6%), Ucayali (-8.6%), Ancash (-7.7%) and Cajamarca (-1.4%).
On the other hand, it increased the collection in Arequipa (7.1%), Tacna (5.7%), Puno (3.9%), Apurímac (2.3%) and San Martín (0.3%), among the main ones.
At national level, the incomes collected by internal taxes reported 10 thousand 22 million 297 thousand Soles, lower figure in 4.4% compared to the registered in May of 2022 (10 thousand 487 million 130 thousand Soles)
