33.4% of the agricultural producers of the country are women

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that according to the results of the National Agricultural Survey (ENA) 2022, 33.4% of the agricultural producers of the country are women and 66.6% of men.
According to age groups, 40.2% of agricultural producers are older adults (60 years old and older), 35.9% are 45 to 59 years, 21.9% are 30 to 44 years old and the 1.9% are 15 to 29 years old. According to the level of education reached, the 51.4% have elementary education, 29.2% reached high-school education, 11.0% do not have education and just the 8.3% have superior education.
26.3% of the producers have more than eleven years dedicated to the agricultural activity
The 2022 ENA results revealed that the 26.3% of the agricultural producers are between 11 to 20 years old dedicated to the mentioned activity; 24.3% are 21 to 30 years old, 18.1% are 31 to 40 years old, 12.4% are 41 to 50 years old, 13.0% are under 10 years old and the 6.0% are 51 years old and over dedicated to the agricultural activity.
74 out of 100 producers work in agribusiness activity
According to type of activity, 74.4% of producers work in Agribusiness activity, 23.9% just Agricultural and 1.7% just in Livestock activity. Of those that work in Agricultural activity, 53.4% work exclusively in the mentioned activity and 46.6% work in additional activities, such as, agriculture, livestock and fishing; commerce; manufacture of clothing items, restaurants and hotels; and transportation among others.
35.5% of producers that have at least one parcel of land have property title
The ENA of 2022, showed that 75.6% of agricultural producers have at least one parcel of some Agricultural Unit, of which the 35.5% have a property title and of them the 19.9% had registered in the property registry.
About the credit application, 9.1% of agricultural producers request credit in the year 2022, of those, the 91.3% had access to credit and of that proportion; the 91.9% have property title.
More than 90% of agricultural producers do not belong to an association
At national level, the 93.3% of the agricultural producers do not belong to some association while that the 6.7% do belong to an association, from this percentage, the 76.2% are men and the 23.8% are women.
In the year 2022, just the 6.6% of the agricultural producers received training
In the year of the execution of the ENA, 6.6% of agricultural producers received training, of those the 74.0% are men and the 26.0% women. Meanwhile, the 3.8% of producers had technical assistance, from them the 75.9% are men and 24.1% are women.
It is important to point out that 1.3% of the agricultural producers accessed to some type of insurance to perform the mentioned activity.
60.0% of the agricultural producers use fertilizers or pesticides
According to the use of fertilizers or pesticides, the 60.0% use the mentioned products. It is worth to mention that the 69.6% of the producers use both products, 14.4% just fertilizers and the 16.0% just pesticides.
It is worth to mention that the 72.0% of agricultural producers use one or more good practices in the use of fertilizers/pesticides, such as the use of the necessary quantity, such as use of necessary quantity, high-quality input, monitoring recommendations of specialists and adequate handling of packaging.
By referring to good environmental practices, the ENA 2022 showed that the 92.6% of agricultural producers, used one or more soil conservation practices, such as: soil analysis, use of organic matter, crop rotation, building terraces, infiltration ditches or rehabilitation of platforms and management and rehabilitation of platforms and management and rehabilitation of degraded, compacted or saline soils.
Regarding the adequate waste management, in the agricultural activity, 47.5% use it for feeding farmed animals or for fertilizer and in the livestock activity, 48.1% use it as fertilizer or fuel.
44.9% of the country surface is agricultural
According to the ENA 2022, from the total of the surface, 44.9% is agricultural, of this percentage, 51.6% have crops and 48.4% have no crops, of this last percentage 22.6% are inactive soils, 8.7% is in rest and 17.1% are fallow land.
Of the non-agricultural surface (55.1%), 61.4% belongs to non-management natural pastures, 30.0% are mountains and forests, 2.2% natural pastures and 6.3% other uses.
Agricultural units according to farm size
According to the farm size of the agricultural units, 55.6% are of 0.5 to 4.9 hectares, 22.9% lower than 0.5 hectares and 21.4% more than 5 hectares.
According to the number of parcels of agricultural units, 31.7% have a parcel, 25.2% have two parcels, 25.6% have 3 to 4 parcels, and 14.6% have 5 to 9 parcels and 2.9% more than 9 parcels.
97.6% of the agricultural units are used for family farming
The ENA 2022 results showed that the 97.6% of the agricultural units are used for family faming and 2.4% for non-family.
Of those destined for family farming, 35.6% are worked with family labor force and 64.4% with casual workers.
It is worth to mention that 88.0% of the agricultural units are of family farming of subsistence of which 49.3% are of critic subsistence and 38.7% non-critic subsistence meanwhile the 10.6% are of intermediate family agriculture and 1.4% are consolidated.
According to the agricultural units with non-family agriculture (2.4%), the 61.4% hire permanent workers and 38.6% hire casual workers.
Permanent and transitory crops of the agricultural producers
The ENA 2022 results showed that 27.8% of the producers cultivate in permanent way the banana 26.7% alfalfa 18.7%, parchment coffee 13.1%, avocado 9.6%, cacao 7.8%, clover 1.8%, Brachiaria grass 1.7%, Brizantha grass and Angleton grass 1.1% .
Among the transitory crops were the potato with 41.3%, starchy maize 32.3%, hard yellow corn 12.4%, forage oat 11.4%, barley as grain 10.0%, yucca 7.8%, sweet corn 7.2%, rice husk 5.0% and corn in the husk 1.7%.
81.8% of the crops are intended to the sale
According to the destination of the agricultural producers crops, 81.8% are for sale, 8.3% are for feeding their farm animals, 3,9% for household consumption, 1.7% derivatives, 1.0% seeds and 3.3% other destinations.
Animal husbandry
Among the big animals, raised by the agricultures were cattle 61.9%, sheep 47.4%, swine 41.8%, alpacas 5.7%, goats 5.3% and llamas 2.9%. Meanwhile, among the small animals are hens 79.5%, guinea pigs 56.7%, roosters 50.8%, chickens and chickens for fattening 14.1%, ducks 13.1%, turkeys 5.2% and rabbits 3.8%.
