Restaurants activity increased 3.96% in May of 2023

During May of the current year, the restaurant activity increased 3.96%, compared with the same month of the year 2022, as a result of the positive evolution of three of its four components. Likewise, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the period January-May of this year, the mentioned activity showed a growth of 5.94%.
The group of restaurants grew by 4.92%
The group of restaurants increased by 4.92% due to the dynamism showed in establishments of fast foods, Pollerías (grilled chicken), restaurants, burger restaurants, chifas (Chinesse restaurants) and Italian food, in response to the enlargement of environments with entertainment zones, presentation of shows of live music, renewed gastronomic menu and promotions by mobile applications, especially the delivery service.
In addition, it was registered greater activity in Chinese food business, Creole food, touristic restaurants, meat and grills, confectioners and ice-cream shops, due to reopening of branches with new formats, refurbishment of terraces, marketing by social networks and strategic alliances with banks, supermarkets and shopping centers.
In this performance, contributed the activities programmed on occasion of the Mother’s Day, International Burguer Day and National Potato Day; as well as the performance of festivals and gastronomy fairs, among the main ones.
Beverages service increased by 10.20%
During May of 2023, the beverages service grew by 10.20% explained by the sales in establishments of coffee shops, juice shops, bars and discos, promoted by the event organization on the occasion of the Mother’s Day, promotions and commercial alliances with financial institutions, variety of beverages, snacks, extension of opening hours and refurbishment of establishments. Additionally, contributed to the activity, the performance of different concerts, among the main ones.
Catering supplying increased by 21.87%
Catering supplying increased by 21.87% due to performance of the preparation service and food distribution for special events such as marriages, gala celebrations, corporate meetings, conferences and openings, with the attention of corporate box, Creole buffet, barbecues, sweets table and snacks trolleys.
Other activities of food service decreased by 3.59%
In May of this year, other activities of food service reduced by 3.59% due to the lower activity of food concessionaires associated to the lower request of contracts for attention in company cafeterias of the agricultural, fishing, manufacturing sectors, cement plants, miners, hospitals and clinics, as a result of the re-structuration of personnel in the contracting companies.
On the other hand, the food supply for contractors (food service to air and land transportation companies) due to the greater frequency of travels, driven by the celebration of national holidays focused to promote the domestic tourism.
