Commercial activity grew 3.15% in May of the current year

The trading sector grew by 3.15%, in May of 2023, compared to the same month of the last year, driven by the wholesale trade, the retail trade and automotive trade, in a continuity environment of economic activities. Likewise, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that from January to May of this current year, this sector added an increase of 2.59%.
The wholesale trade increased by 3.11%
During May of 2023, the wholesale trade increased by 3.11% driven by the sale of solid, liquid and gas fuels and allied products before the greater ante la mayor commercialization targeted to the industry and mining sectors, supply retail centers and distributors, with demand of fuels, domestic gas, greases, lubricants and oils.
In addition, it grew the sale of other type of machinery and equipment such as motors, spares, filters and medical equipment for mining, sanitation, construction, energy and health, through public and private tenders. Also, grew other household goods such as pharmaceutical products (analgesics, antipyretics, antihistamines, serums for the treatment of dengue, vaccines), cosmetics, personal care articles and white goods on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
Additionally, it increased the non-specialized sale before the greater distribution of chemical products, plastic containers, industrial and domestic cleaning products, veterinary products, security articles (electronic security equipment, fire extinguishers, sensors, video entry system).
Likewise, it registered a progress the sale of computers, peripheral equipment and computer programs informatics before the demand of technologic equipment on the occasion of Mother’s Day. Also, the sale of telecommunications electronic equipment and its parts due to the contract renewals of telephonic equipment and mobile radio, equipment of video surveillance, network cables, among others. On the other hand, the sale of wholesale trade of foods, beverages and tobacco as well as the sale of construction materials and hardware covers.
The retail trade increased by 3.42%
The retail trade increased by 3.42% explained by the retail sale of fuel in gas stations due to the greater traffic flow of vehicles before the growth of the vehicle fleet and commercial strategies. In addition, by the sale of computers, peripheral units, computer programs and telecommunications equipment were favored due to the selling of computers, due to the growing renewal of laptops, tablets, cellphones and software updates.
Likewise, it grew the sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, cosmetics and personal care products and discounts; other sale of new products in specialized warehouses due to greater demand of silver crafts and agro veterinary products (vaccine for bird flu), as well as fertilizers.
Likewise, the sale by mail and by Internet as part of the improvements in commercial management and discounts in online sale; the sale of clothing items, footwear and leather articles due to fairs and campaigns of Mother’s Day; as well as the sale in vending machines of snacks and beverages. Meanwhile, the sale in supermarkets and minimarkets, the sale in department stores and sale of hardware ítems, paints and glass products.
Automotive commerce increased by 2.70%
In May of this year, the automotive commerce grew by 2.70% explained by the greater commercialization of light duty vehicles (SUV trucks, off-road trucks) associated with commercial strategies, the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles explained by the new contracts and the increased sale of pneumatics and motor parts. As well as the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles for new contracts with insurance companies and renewed client portfolio.
While, the sale, the maintenance and repair of motorcycle and its parts, pieces and accessories decreased.
