Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew by 16.74% in May of 2023

During May of 2023, the production of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increasing by 16.74%, compared to the same month of the year 2022, due to the expansion of the metal mining in 21.02%, as a result of the greater production of copper (36.1%), molybdenum (17.1%), zinc (8.2%), lead (5.3%) and tin (6.5%). On the other hand, gold (-7.4%), silver (-4.7%) and iron (-3.7%) decreased.
The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in its technical report Conjucture Progress of the Economic Activity, point out that the hydrocarbons subsector decreased by 4.47%, due to the lower level of exploitation of crude oil (-8.3%), liquids of natural gas (-3.9%) and natural gas (-1.8%).
Fishing sector decreased by 70.60%
The Fishing sector contracted by 70.60% associated to the lower extraction of maritime origin species (-76.15%), for indirect human consumption. In May of 2023, 7 620 tons of anchovy were extracted and in May of the previous year were extracted 1 069 431 tons.
On the other hand, fishing for direct human consumption (4.28%) intended for fresh state consumption (22.9%) and for preparation of curing (10.9%).
Continental origin fishing grew by 5.81% due to the greater extraction of species for fresh state consumption.
Production of electricity subsector in June grew by 5.02%
According to preliminary figures, till June 27 of this year, the production of the electricity subsector grew 5.02%, due to the favorable performance of the generation of thermoelectric origin energy (29.6%) and renewable energies (22.7%). Nevertheless, the generation of hydroelectric origin energy (-19.9%) decreased.
Among the companies that outstood by the greater levels of production were Termoselva, Kallpa Generación, Enel Generación Perú, Engie, Termochilca, Sudamérica de Energía (SDE) Piura, Empresa de Generación Huanza, Egesur and Enel Generación Piura.
Domestic cement consumption decreased by 11.88%
During the month of May of this year, the domestic cement consumption contracted by 11.88% compared to the month of May 2022, associated to the lower level of private works and of self-construction.
General Government Investment Spending increased by 7.22%
In May of 2023, General Government Investment Spending (S/3 392 million) grew in 7.22% compared to the month of May 2022; before the increase of the investment in construction in the national government and the increase of the investment in machinery, equipment and other actives by the national and regional government. In addition, the General Government investment spending, in nominal terms, totaled S/ 10 044 million, registering a progress of 8.62%, compared to the same month of the last year.
Granting of consumer credits increased by 15.56%
Consumer credits placed in S/ 72 326 million with an increase of 15.56% compared to the same month of the last year and the mortgage loans totaled S/ 61 331 million, registering an increase of 5.35% compared to the same month of 2022. Otherwise, credits granted to large, medium, small corporations and micro-enterprises (S/ 218 549 million).
On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking was of 6 million 642 thousand units and showed an increase of 2.72%.
Total import amount showed an unfavorable behavior
In May of 2023, the total import amount was of US$ 4 386 million and reduced in 9.24%, compared with the registered value in May 2022. Therefore, the import of raw materials and intermediate products placed in US$ 2 141 million, observing a decrease of 20.89% and the import of capital goods and construction materials totaled US$ 1 215 millions, reducing in 0.25%, compared to the value registered in May 2022.
While, the value of the import of consumer goods placed in US$ 1 030 million, growing in 13.45%.
