Restaurants business increased by 9.16% in April of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in April of the year 2023, the restaurants activity grew by 9.16%, compared to the same month of the last year, in response to the growth of its four components, influenced by the long holidays established in the month under analysis. Likewise, it was informed that between January and April of this year, the restaurants activity showed a progress of 6.43%.
Group of restaurants increased by 7.65%
Group of restaurants showed a growth of 7.65% supported by the greater activity of Pollerías (grilled chicken), fast foods, restaurants, Chifas (Chinese food), Cevicherías (seafood restaurant), ice-cream shops, meats and grills establishments. These businesses were more attended in the days of long holiday due to Holy Week celebration and these businesses evolved in response of different promotions channeled by mobile apps, the efficiency of digital payments and the opening of branches and franchises.
In addition, the performance of different gastronomic fairs contributed to this result: “Sabores Nikkei” and “Feria Gastronómica y Artesanal” in Lima, “Apurímac Fest Tour 2023” in Apurímac, “Feria Gastronómica y Artesanal” in Ancash and as part of the celebration of the “Day of the Peruvian Sweet” that was performed in the fair “Gastronomía Viva” in Lima. Moreover, a greater demand in the businesses of Japanese food, sandwiches restaurants, Creole food, tourist restaurants, confectioners and Italian food.
Other activities of food service increased by 11.27%
In April of this year, other activities of food service increased by 11.27% driven by the dynamism of food concessionaries, due to greater service orders due to increase in personnel of contracting companies, new contracts with ministers, companies of the private, electricity, manufacturing and health care centers. It is worth to mention that the food concessionaries area grew after seven months of continues contraction.
Likewise, the food supply for contractors (food service to air and land transportation companies) positively evolved driven by the travel frequency in Holy Week long holidays.
Beverage service increased by 19.20%
The beverage service grew 19.20% before the greater dynamism in the areas of coffee shops, juice shops, bar restaurants and bars, due to greater demand of frozen and hot beverages and regional shots, discounts in snacks and desserts via online, refurbishment works with thematic decorations, varied music and good advertising handling.
Catering services increased by 1.59%
In April of this year, catering service registered a progress of 1.59%, due to the greater requirement of preparation service and food distribution for events, in the attention of buffets and coffee breaks for corporative meetings, conferences, events intended to promote integration, anniversaries, marriages and birthdays.
