Commercial activity increased 3.18% in April of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), informed that the commerce sector grew by 3.18%, in April of this year, compared with the same month of the previous year, driven by the wholesale commerce, retail commerce and automotive commerce, in a recovery environment of the economic activities in the country. It also, make known that in the period January- April of 2023, this sector showed an increase of 2.44%
The wholesale commerce increased by 3.17%
The wholesale commerce increased by 3.17% driven by the sale of other type of machinery and equipment, such as refrigeration equipment, motors, pumps, compressors, spare parts for heavy machinery and machinery for physical rehabilitation, associated to the development of public-private projects in the sanitation, health, mining and industry sectors.
In addition, the sale of solid, liquid and gas fuels and allied products was favored, before the greater demand from the retail commerce centers, mining and industry sectors among others; as well as the greater demand of grease, lubricants and oils.
There was also an increase in the sale of other household goods such as pharmaceutical, ophthalmologic products, new variety of products in the diapers and milk line for infants, food supplements, perfumery, cosmetics and toiletries articles, household appliances, games and toys and tableware and glassware articles, among the main ones.
The sale of electronic equipment and telecommunications equipment and its parts was invigorated due to the greater commercialization of telephone and radio equipment of portable communication devices, semiconductor devices and electronic pieces. Likewise, the sale of agrochemical and seeds, medical products for cardiology and neurology diagnosis, security articles (cameras and safety frames, alarm button) and industrial cleaning products reported an increase.
Likewise, it grew sale of computers, peripheral equipment and informatics programs due to renovation of hardware and update of software, greater demand of printers, inks, among others. Nevertheless, the wholesale of construction materials and hardware covers and the sale of waste, scrap and other products, decreased.
Retail commerce increased by 3.37%
The retail production increased by 3.37% explained by the sale of fuels for automotive vehicles in line with the increase of the vehicle fleet and reopening of gas stations; sale of pharmaceutical products (for treatment of dengue diseases, ophthalmologic products and products for infants) and medicine, cosmetic and toiletries products, due to the opening of establishments at national level.
In addition, the wholesale of new products in specialized warehouses, the demand of safety articles, costume jewelry in gold and silver, watches, agro veterinarian products, ophthalmic frames, veterinary medicinal products, chainsaws, pesticides and fertilizers. Also, the sale of computers, peripheral units, informatics programs and telecommunication equipment, through public tenders and demand of the last versions of hardware and software.
Nevertheless, the sale of foods, beverages and tobacco decreased in supermarkets, mini-markets, and the sale in department stores.
The automotive commerce increased by 2.56%
During April of 2023, the automotive commerce increased by 2.56% due to the greater commercialization of light-duty vehicles (pick-up trucks, trucks, automobiles) due to contract renewal and dynamism of the economic sectors.
Also, increased the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles, with special emphasis in spares and pneumatics. It also grew the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles due to the increase of accidents and demand of ironing, painting and repair of clutches. On the other hand, it reduced the sale maintenance and repair of motorcycles and its parts, pieces and accessories.
