57.4% of the population has an account in the financial system in the first quarter of the year 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the first quarter of this year, 57.4% the population aged 18 years old and older of the country has some account in the financial system (savings account, remuneration account, fixed-term account or current account), increasing in 3.7 percentage points, compared with the same quarter of the year 2022.
According to the technical report Living Conditions in Peru, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), the greater percentage growth was registered in the urban area by increasing in 3.8 percentage points (from 58.3% to 62.1%), followed by the rural area in 2.2 percentage points (from 33.4% to 35.6%).
On the other hand, the greater proportion of the population with some account in the financial system was registered in the age group of 30 to 44 years old. On the other hand, the greater proportion of the population with some account in the financial system was registered in the age group of 30 to 44 years old (61.5%), followed by those that are between 18 to 29 years old (61.0%), with increases of 2.0 and 5.1 percentage points, respectively. Likewise, the access to an account in the financial system between the population aged 45 years old and older increased in 4.2 percentage points by going from 47.4% to 51.6%.
State schoolchildren that access to school breakfasts increased
58.5% of the households with girls and boys of 3 to 11 years old that attended or are enrolled in state schools, were benefited by the Program of Qali Warma School Breakfast, it means 8.4 percentage points more than the first quarter of the year 2022.
More than a quarter of the population with some health problem sought medical attention
39.4% of the population with some health problem sought medical attention in an establishment, increasing in 1.0 percentage point, compared to the first quarter of the year 2022. According to place or establishment of consultation, 17.0% sought medical attention in pharmacies or apothecaries, 11.5% attended the establishments of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), 5.3% attended a private practice and 4.6% attended the establishments of the Social Security Health Insurance (EsSalud).
In the urban area, the place or establishment of greater medical attention was the pharmacy or apothecary (17.9%), followed by the MINSA with 9.8%. While, in the rural area the 18.6% looked for attention in MINSA establishments and 13.4% in pharmacy or apothecary.
86.7% of the population have health insurance
During the first quarter of this year, 86.7% of the country’s population declared they have some type of health insurance, increasing by 3.5 percentage points, compared to same quarter of the year 2022 (83.2%). In that regard, the coverage of this service was greater in rural area (91.3%) than in urban area (85.5%), with growths of 1.0 and 4.1 percentage points, respectively.
By insurance type, 57.8% of the country’s population have just the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), followed by 23.9% that have the Social Security Health Insurance (EsSalud). By residence area, in the population that accessed just to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), the greater increase was registered in urban area by going from 48.0% to 51.0%, compared with the rural area, by going from 84.0% to 85.6%, in the period under analysis.
From each 100 households of the country 18 have at least a bicycle
18.4% of the households of the country have a bicycle; followed by 13.9% that have car/truck 12.2% motorcycle and 6.8% have moto taxi. By comparing with the same quarter of the year 2022, there was observed an increase of 1.5 and 1.3 percentage points, compared with those that have bicycle and moto taxi, respectively.
