Total volume exported of Peru increased 19.6% in April of 2023

During the month of April of this year, the total volume exported of goods increased by 19.6% compared to the same month of 2022, explained by greater shipments of traditional (24.0%) and non-traditional (7.8%) products.
The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) through the technical report Evolution of Exports and Imports informed that the main countries of destination of exports for the month under study were China with 41.9%, total export value in real terms.
In the period January-April of the year 2023, the total export volume increased by 6.1%. Traditional products grew by 6.4% and non-traditional products increased by 5.1% due to the progress of the non-metallic mining (56.3%) being the main products the natural calcium phosphate, anthracites and ceramic tiles with water absorption coefficient higher than 0.5% and lower than or equal to 10%; as well as the other sectors, fishing (33.1%), metal-mechanic (10.9%) and agricultural (5.4%).
Export of traditional products increased by 24.0%
The export volume of traditional products grew by 24.0% compared with the same month of the last year, due to the positive behavior, mainly by the shipping of mining products (33.7%). The export of copper (48.0%), followed by zinc (45.3%), lead (3.4%), iron (27.9%) and tin (18.2%) outstood.
While, the export of products of the fishing (-28.9%), agricultural (-39.1%) sectors as well oil and oil derivate (-17.6%).
Export volume of non-traditional products grew by 7.8%
In April of 2023, the export volume of non-traditional products increased by 7.8% compared with the same month of the last year, behavior explained by the performance of fishing (60.4%), non-metallic mining (84.9%), agricultural (3.0%), iron and steel industries (5.4%) and metal-mechanic (0.4%) sectors.
Thus, greater shipments of mussels, scallops, frozen (186.2%); squid and cuttlefishes (211.9%); horse mackerels (236.0%) and frozen whole shrimps (19.1%) were reported. Also, the transactions of natural calcium phosphate (106.1%), anthracites (316.7%) and ceramic tiles with water absorption higher than 0.5% and lower than or equal to 10% (8.3%) grew.
Likewise, shipments of avocados (48.3%), fresh fruits (30.0%), preparations for animal feeding (1.3%), paprika (30.6%) and sweet cookies (32.5%) increased ; the shipments of iron or unalloyed steel bar with indentations and ribs (340.7%), plates and sheets of refined copper (25.1%), refined copper wires (34.7%), as well refined copper bars and profiles (74.1%); well-drilling or core drilling machines (123.0%), lead-acid batteries (91.7%), as well as balls and similar articles for mills (174.9%).
Total imported volume decreased by 13.5%
The total imported volume contracted by 13.5% compared to April of the last year. The main supplier countries of imported goods in April of 2023 were China with 26.4%, United Stated of America 20.1%, Brazil 7.9%, Mexico 5.4% and Argentina with 3.8% of the total real value of imports.
The period January - April of 2023, the volume imported reduced by 4.3% explained by the lower income of capital goods and construction materials (-10.2%), consumption goods (-2.2%) and raw materials and intermediate products (-1.3%).
Import of consumer goods decreased by 8.2% in April of 2023
The import of consumer goods decreased by 8.2% by the lower level of purchases of consumer durables (-14.0%) and non-durable consumption goods (-3.6%).
Among the consumer durables of lower demand outstood automobiles (-10.7%), televisions (-54.6%), motorcycles (-13.2%), refrigerator and freezer of separates exterior doors (-11.4%), plastic manufacturing items (-24.9%). In the case of non-durable products were medicines for human use (-11.9%); milk and powdered, granulated or solid concentrated cream (-25.9%); shampoos (-21.4%); footwear of textile material and rubber or plastic sole (-14.3%) and medicines for oncologic or HIV treatment (-50.9%).
Volume imported of raw material and intermediate products contracted by 13.5%
In April of 2023, the volume imported of raw material and intermediate products decreased by 13.5%, before the lower demand of raw materials and intermediate products for industry (-8.9%), fuels, lubricants and allied products (-23.5%), and of raw materials and intermediate products for agriculture (-17.4%).
Raw materials and intermediate products for industry that showed a lower demand were of high-density polyethylene (-11.3%), iron and steel waste and scrap (-49.9%), polyethylene in primary forms (-3.6%) and hot-rolled or hot-extruded steel bars (-58.3%). Also, reduced the purchase volume of fuels, lubricants and allied products due to the lower demand of crude oil (-13.9%), gasoline without tetra ethylene for automobiles para automobiles (-3.6%), diesel B2 (-27.5%) and diesel B5 (-47.2%), among others.
The imports of raw materials and intermediate products for agriculture were affected by the lower demand of oilcakes and other solid residues of the extraction of soybean oil (-5.8%), mineral fertilizers or chemical nitrogen (-9.7%), preparation used to animal feeding (-34.1%) and herbicides, germination inhibitors and regulators of plants growing (-31.4%).
The acquisition of capital goods and construction materials decreased by 17.1%
The imported volume of capital goods and construction materials decreased by 17.1%, explained by the lower purchase of capital goods for industry (-20.4%), transportation equipment (-11.7%), construction materials (-0.2%) and capital goods for agriculture (-25.2%).
In the group of capital goods for industry, the outstood losses were smart phones (-50.4%); machines for data processing of weight lower than 10 kg (-61.8%); units of digital processing (-12.6%); washing machine of weight higher than 10 kg (-7.2%), among others. Among the transportation equipment were trucks (-24.9%), vehicles for transportation of goods with a load higher than 20 T (-30.4%), trucks for road for semi-trailer (-64.6%) and vehicles with cargo higher or equal to 9.3 T (-15.0%). In the case of construction materials: iron or unalloyed steel bars with indentations or ribs (-24.7%) and ceramic tiles with a water absorption coefficient lower or equal to 0.5% (-25.0%).
Also, the lower acquisition of capital goods for the agriculture such as Caterpillar truck of power higher than 75 kW and lower or equal to 130 kW (-23.3%), an caterpillar truck with power higher than 37 kW and lower or equal to 75 kW (-44.1%).
