92.1% of girls, boys and adolescents have health insurance in the first quarter of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report State of the Childhood and Adolescence (prepared with the results of the National Household Survey -ENAHO), stated that in the first quarter of 2023, 92.1% of people of the country under the age of 18 had access to some health insurance a higher percentage in 3.3 percentage points compared with the same quarter of 2022.
According to residence area, 94.5% of this population group that lives in rural area and 91.3% of urban area had access to this service, registering increases of 1.3 and 3.8 percentage points, registering increases of 1.3 and 3.8 percentage points, respectively; compared with the same quarter of the year 2022.
According to type of insurance, 67.0% had access just to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) and 21.6% of the Social Health Insurance (ESSALUD), coverages that showed increases of 2.5 and 1.0 percentage points respectively, compared with the first quarter of the last year.
According to residence area, it outstood the SIS coverage in rural area that increased from 88.0% to 90.2% and urban area from 57.5% to 59.7%.
56.8% of the population under 18 years old with some health problem or chronic discomfort sought medical attention
During the first quarter of the year 2023, 56.8% of people under the age of 18 years old that informed they have some health problem or chronic discomfort, sought medical attention in some health establishment, registering an increase of 1.9 percentage points, compared with the same quarter of the last year. From this total, 20.9% went to a pharmacy and the 15.5% to a MINSA health establishment while the 43.2% did not sought medical attention.
53.6% of the population between 14 to 17 years old just study
Results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) reported that 53.6% of the adolescent population aged 14 to 17 years old just study, registering an increase of 3.8 percentage points, compared with the same quarter of the last year; meanwhile the 22.7% study and work, the 15.5% neither studied nor work and the 8.1% just work.
Of every 100 households of the country in 51, at least there is a person under 18 years old
The INEI informed that the 51.3% of the households of the country have among its members at least one person under 18 years old. According to residence area, a similar proportion was reported in urban area (51.4%) and rural area (51.1%) households.
71.4% of the households with population under 18 years old are nuclear
According to the ENAHO, 71.4% of the households with a member under 18 years old are nuclear, it means, consist by the father, mother or some of them. 25.1% of the households where there is at least a member under 18 years old are extended (nuclear households in which besides it lives one or more family members).
81.7%, of the households with girls, boys or adolescents of rural area are bi-parental, it means, with both parents and 18.3% mono-parental households with just one of the parents. In urban area, these percentages reached the 69.2% and the 30.8%, respectively, in the quarter of January-February-March 2023.
