The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of March of 2023, cooper production increased by 19.9% compared with the same month of the last year. This was published in the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook.

This result was explained by the contribution of the Anglo American Quellaveco Company that started operations in September of 2022, combined with the greater production level of Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Minera Antapaccay, Cerro Verde, Minera Shouxin Perú, Marcobre and Gold Fields La Cima; tempered by the lower volumes extracted from Antamina, Minera Las Bambas and Nexa Resources Perú.

Among the departments that showed a greater copper production outstood: Huancavelica (207.8%), followed by Cajamarca (40.2%), Cusco (35.8%), Ica (17.9%), Pasco (8.6%), Arequipa (7.2%), Junín (3.2%), Tacna (1.8%) and Lima (0.7%); meanwhile, it decreased in Puno (-81.9%), Ayacucho (-29.1%), Áncash (-28.6) and Apurímac (-7.1%).

During March of this year, sugar cane production totalized 680 thousand 388 tons, higher volume by 9.5% compared to that registered in the same month of 2022.

This behavior was determined by the increase of cuts in the production areas of Áncash (364.3%) and La Libertad (13.7%), both departments contributed with more than 72.0% of the national production; also increased in Arequipa (27.1%).
