Restaurants activity increased by 2.75% in March of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during March of this year, restaurants activity grew 2.75% compared to the same month of the last year, due to the dynamism of three of its four components, due to the extension of opening hours, participation at fairs and gastronomic festivals and the activities for the International Women’s Day. During the first quarter of this year, this activity recorded an increase of 5.51%.
Restaurant group increased by 4.30%
The production of restaurants group improved in 4.30% determined by the greater demand in the Pollerías (grilled chicken), restaurants, fast foods, sandwich shops, Chifas (Chinese food), meats, grills and Japanese food, businesses that implemented promotions and discounts, with the corresponding increase of customers number and its loyalty. Likewise, there was opening of branches, extension of spaces, live artistic performances and greater demand of delivery service.
Likewise, the implementation of the International Harvest Festival of Ica, the gastronomic fair “IV Feria Perú Imparable” performed in the city of Tarapoto and the activities on the occasion of International Women’s Day. This was in addition to the good performance of the Chinese and Creole food confectionaries, cevicherias (seafood restaurants), Italian food, ice-cream shop and picanterías (traditional restaurants with kitchens to firewood).
Beverages service grew by 13.60%
The INEI informed that beverage service registered a growth of 13.60% based on the dynamic of the coffee shop, juice shops, discos, bar restaurants and bars, supported in the great menu variety of cold and hot beverages, snacks, regional drinks; extension of opening hours, reintegration of the karaoke service and free entrance and presentation of artists.
Catering services increased by 24. 65%
Catering service reported a positive variation of 24.65% associated to a greater demand of service contracts of preparation and distribution of foods for events, in the attention of buffets and coffee break, for social gatherings, conferences, talks and business branches.
Other activities of food services decreased by 8.38%
During March of this year, other activities of food services reduced by 8.38% a behavior that was associated to the lower activity of food concessionaires, businesses that suffer contracts reduction with textile, mining, manufacturing, cement plants, hospitals, clinics and ministries. An incident factor was the hit of Cyclone Yaku in Peruvian coasts that caused the interruption of roads, paths and highways, obstructing the regular development of activities.
Nevertheless, food supply for contractors (food service to air and land transportation) developed normally, reflected in the increase of travels and with and development of domestic tourism.
