Commercial activity increased 2.95% in March of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics informed that the production of the Commerce sector increased 2.95%, compared with the same month of the year 2022, due to the performance of the wholesale commerce, retail commerce and automotive commerce, during March of this year. Also, informed that during the first quarter of this year, this sector reported a progress of 2.19%.
Wholesale trade grew by 3.06%
Wholesale trade increased by 3.06% driven by the sale of other type of machinery and equipment targeted to health, industrial and mining sector. Also, by the sale of solid, liquid and gas fuels and allied products before the greater commercialization to mining, fishing and construction sectors; as well as the sale of computers, peripheral equipment and computer programs that grew before the renewal of the hardware and software.
Likewise, it increased the sale of metals and metal ores; textile products, clothing items and footwear and the sale of agricultural raw materials and live animals, this last one supported by the commercialization of coffee, cacao, balanced food for animal consumption, chicken standing, inputs for poultry, husbandry, livestock and food industry. While that the wholesale trade of construction materials, hardware retailing and sale of foods, beverages and tobacco decreased.
Retail trade increased by 2.64%
The INEI informed that the retail trade grew by 2.64%, mainly due to the sale of fuels with the opening of gas stations; the sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, cosmetics and toiletries increased due to the expansion of store chain and incorporation of new trademarks. It also, grew the sale of new products in specialized stores associated to supply transactions for electrical installations, electric motors and veterinary products. In addition, the sale of books, newspapers and stationary items increased due to the demand of school supplies, schoolbooks and office material.
Likewise, the sale of clothing items, footwear and leather articles invigorated due to season advertising strategies. The retail trade of snacks and beverages through vending machines and catalogue products and the retail trade of household appliances, furniture, illumination appliances and other articles for the household also reported increase.
On the other hand, the sale in supermarkets, hypermarkets and minimarkets was negatively affected as well as the retail trade sale of hardware retailing, paints and glass products.
The automotive commerce increased by 3.03%
The production of automotive commerce increased by 3.03% explained by the greater commercialization of light-duty vehicles, marketing strategies and trademark and models portfolio.
Additionally, it grew the sale of parts, pieces and accessories for automotive vehicles due to new contracts, maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles due to summer campaign. On the other hand, the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and its parts, pieces and accessories decreased.
