Export volume of non-traditional products grew 1.5% in March of this year

In March of 2023, the export volume of non-traditional products increased by 1.5% compared with the same month of the last year, due to the performance of the fishing (42.9%), non-metallic mining (30.4%) and metal-mechanic (16.8%) sectors. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Evolution of exports and imports.
Among the products that contributed with this result outstands: frozen mussels and scallops (270.2%), squid and cuttlefishes (253.5%), frozen while shrimps (12.8%); natural calcium phosphate (68.0%), anthracites (125.0%), cylinders (49.1%); machines parts for classify, grind earth, stone or solid mineral
(44.5%), lead-acid accumulators (107.4%).
Total volume exported reduced by 11.7%
The INEI informed that the total volume exported decreased by 11.7% compared to the same month of the last year, associated with the lower agricultural (-67.6%), petroleum and natural gas (-36.8%), fishing (-20.3%) and mining (-12.5%) activity.
Likewise, it informed that the main countries of destination of exports were China with 34.5%, United States 15.8% and South Korea with 5.5% of the total export value in real terms.
Export volume of traditional exports decreased by 18.0%
The real value of traditional exports contracted by 18.0%, compared with the same month of the year 2022, due to the lower shipments of agricultural (-67.6%), petroleum and natural gas (-36.8%), fishing (-20.3%) and mining (-12,5%) products.
Therefore, in mining products was reported lower shipments of gold (-16.3%), zinc (-50.2%), lead (-59.6%), molybdenum (-43.9%), tin (-47.8%) and iron (-75.4%). Among the fishing products were fishmeal (-17.0%) and fish oil (-39.1%). In the agricultural sector there were affected the shipments of coffee (-76.4%); the real exports of petroleum and natural gas decreased by 36.8% due to lower export volumes of natural gas (-64.2%).
Total imported volume increased by 1.7%
The total imported volume grew by 1.7% compared with the same month of the last year. On the other hand it was informed that during the first quarter of this year, the volume imported decreased by 0.9% as a result of the lower income of capital goods and construction material (-7.8%) and consumption goods (-0.2%).
Purchase of raw materials and intermediate products increased by 4.7%
During the third month of this year, the import of raw materials and intermediate products increased by 4.7%, compared to March of the year 2022.
In this result influenced the greater demand of fuels, lubricants, allied products (58.0%), raw materials, and intermediate products for agriculture (28.4%). In the progress of the import of fuels, lubricants and allied products influenced the greater demand of other lubricating oils (75.5%) and liquefied propane gas (75.0%).
The expansion of the volume of raw materials and intermediate products for agriculture was supported by the greater purchase of oil-cake and other solid residues of the oil bean extraction (213.3%), preparations used for animals feeding (0,5%), natural calcium phosphate (54.7%), among the main ones.
On the other hand, the purchase of raw material san intermediate products for industry decreased by -11.5% as a result of lower purchase of hard yellow corn (-14.5%), iron or steel waste an scrap (-14.5%), soybean oil, crude (-26,6%), polyethylene of high density (-3.1%), wheat other than seed (-32.7%), among others.
Import of capital goods and construction materials grew by 2.8%
The INEI informed that the volume imported of capital goods and construction materials increased by 2.8% as a result of the positive evolution of the sectors transportation equipment (19.4%), construction materials (5.0%) and capital goods for agriculture (21.6%).
Among the transportation equipment outstands: trucks (7.8%), Diesel vehicles for of freight transport with a major load greater than 20 Tons (186.3%), road tractors for semi-trailer (28.4%), pneumatics used in vehicles and machines for construction and mining (31.5%).
Regarding construction materials, it outstands the greater purchase of ceramic tiles with a water absorption coefficient lower or equal to 0.5% (41.3%). The performance reported due to the purchase of capital goods for agriculture, was due to the greater domestic consumption of Caterpillar tractors of power higher than 75 kW and lower or equal to 130 kW (59.9%), as well as the caterpillar tractor of power higher than 37 kW and lower or equal to 75 kW (67.7%).
Nevertheless, the purchase of capital goods for industry (-2.6%) reduced and among its components are the Smart phones (-0.8%); machines for data processing of weight lower or equal to 10 kg. (-53.5%); digital telecommunications devices (-12.2%); mechanic shovels, diggers, Wheel loaders and loaders (-16. 9%), among others.

Acquisition of consumption goods decreased by 5.8%
During March of 2023, the import of consumption goods decreased by 5.8% comparing to the same month of 2022, due to the low level of purchase of durable consumption goods (-8.0%) and non-durable consumption goods (-4.2%).
Among the durable consumption goods that have greater demand were TVs (-23.3%), plastic manufacturing (-8.1%), refrigerator and freezer of separated exterior doors (-19.2%), motorcycles (-32.5%); gas cookers or other fuels, other than built-in cookers (-11.8%) and headphones with or without microphone (-3.3%). In the case of non-durable products are other footwear (-24.4%) and medicines for human use that have vitamins (-26.0%).
