Employed population in Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 187 thousand persons in the quarter February- March- April of 2023

In the mobile quarter February-March-April 2023, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 187 thousand 900 persons and increased 5 million 187 thousand 900 persons and increased by 2.7% (136 thousand 900 persons) compared with the same quarter of the year 2022. The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed this way in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
The population with suitable employment increased by 8.4% (230 thousand 400 persons), compared with the same quarter of the year 2022, while compared with the same quarter of 2019 it decreased by 4.3% (-134 thousand 200 persons).
In the quarter under analysis, the underemployed population decreased by 4.1% (-93 thousand 500 persons) compared with the quarter February-March-April 2021. Nevertheless, compared with the same quarter of the year 2019 increased by 25.8% (450 thousand 600 persons).
In 4.8% increased the female employed population
The INEI informed that the female employed population grew by 4.8% (109 thousand 400 persons) and male grew by 1.0% (27 thousand 500 persons), compared with the same quarter of the last year 2022.
Employed population aged 45 years old and over increased by 6.9%
According to age groups, the employed population aged 45 years old and over grew by 6.9% (119 thousand 700 persons) and the population aged 25 to 44 years old grew by 2.9% (72 thousand 900 persons); while the employed population under 25 years old decreased by 6.7% (-55 thousand 700 persons).
Employed population with university education level increased by 24.0%
In the quarter February-March-April of this year, the employed population with university education grew by 24.0% (282 thousand persons) and those that have non-university superior education level grew by 17.5% (159 thousand 400 persons); in the other hand it decreased by 10.5% (-265 thousand 500 persons) the employed ones with high-school education level and among those with elementary education level or lower by 8.9% (-38 thousand 900 persons).
Services and Manufacturing increased employed population
Employed population increased in the branches of Services activities by 8.0% (217 thousand 800 persons) and Manufacture 3.1% (20 thousand 600 persons) while it decreased in Construction 4.7% (-19 thousand 600 persons) and Commerce 6.4% (-75 thousand 800 persons).
Unemployment rate was of 7.1%
In the quarter February-March-April of this year the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 7.1%. It is estimated that 394 thousand 800 persons were looking for a job actively in Lima Metropolitan area.
The average monthly income coming from work increased by 14.7%
The INEI informed that the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 1,872.9 Soles, amount that compared with the same quarter of the last year was higher in 14.7% (240.0 Soles) and compared with the same quarter of the year 2019, it increased by 7.9% (136.6 Soles).
According to sex, the average monthly income of the male population increased by 10.9% and the average monthly income of female increased by 22.4%.
The average monthly income in commerce sector increased by 26.3%
The average monthly income of workers in Commerce sector increased by 26.3% (332.6 Soles), followed by Manufacture 13.5% (202.3 Soles), Services 11.9% (209.9 Soles) and Construction by 11.3% (204.4 Soles).
