Production of mining and hydrocarbons sector grew 9.28% during March of 2023

During March of 2023, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased by 9.28% compared with the same month of the last year; driven by the performance of metallic-mining (8.70%) and hydrocarbons (12.66%) subsectors. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of the Economic Activity.
This result was explained by the greater volume produced of copper (19.9%), molybdenum (7.1%), iron (14.0%), gold (1.0%) and lead (1.5%); nevertheless, it decreased the production of zinc (-23.8%), tin (-48.5%) and silver (-2.0). Likewise, in the positive behavior of the hydrocarbons sector contributed the greater level of exploitation of crude petroleum (50.4%) and natural gas (15.3%); meanwhile it reduced the production of liquids of natural gas (-3.6%).
Fishing sector increased by 22.09%
The production of fishing sector grew by 22.09% due to greater extraction of maritime origin species (28.45%), for direct human consumption (41.00%); of species intended to the preparation of canning (81.5%), for freezing (50.9%) and for consumption in fresh state (26.8%).
Nevertheless, it decreased the fishing for indirect human consumption (resource anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil) that reached 28 tons against the 37 thousand 25 tons reported in March 2022, as a result of the increase of superficial temperature of the ocean, that affected the capture of this resource; to which it added the end of the second fishing season of anchovy in the north-center zone of the Peruvian ocean during the last February.
On the other hand, fishing of continental origin contracted by 4.33% due to lower extraction of species for freezing and preparation for curing.
Production of electricity subsector grew 8.85% in April of this year
According to preliminary figures, as of April 26 of the current year, the production of electricity subsector increased by 8.85%, before the greater generation of thermoelectric origin energy (48.7%) and of renewable energies (0.7%); while, it decreased the generation of hydroelectric origin (-4.4%). According to companies, Kallpa Generación, Engie, Termochilca, Enel Generación Piura, Empresa de Generación Huallaga, Enel Generación Perú, San Gabán, Egemsa, Statkraft and ElectroPerú reported greater production levels.
Domestic cement consumption contracted by 15.33%
The INEI informed that the domestic cement consumption decreased by 15.33% compared to the month of March 2022, as a result of the lower progress in private works and self –construction, registering seven months of unfavorable results; associated to the low demand level and adverse weather factors that caused the limited development in the execution of works.
General Government investment spending grew by 10.67%
During March of the current year, the General Government Investment Spending (S/ 3,845 million) was higher in 10.67% compared to the same month of the last year and the investment intended to construction, mainly of the national government an in a lesser extent of the regional; nevertheless, it reduced the investment in acquisition of machinery, equipment and other actives.
Likewise, the consumption expenditure of the General Government in nominal terms amounted S/ 9,392 million, registering an increase of 6.43%, compared to the same month of the last year.
Consumer credits increased by 18.97%
Consumer credits reached S/ 71,112 million, higher by 18.97% compared with the same month of the last year. Also, mortgage credits grew and amounted S/ 60 928 million and showed an increase of 6.68%; nevertheless, it decreased in 4.59%, the credits granted to big, medium, small and micro-enterprises corporations amounted S/ 221,301 million, compared to March of the last year.
On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking was of 6 million 596 thousand units and increased by 5.16%, compared with the same month of the last year.
Total imports decreased by 8.90%
With information as of April 24 of this year, the total amount imported during March 2023, was of US $ 4 519 million, decreasing by 8.90%, compared to the value registered in March of the last year.
Additionally, the import value of consumer goods reached US$ 912 million and decreased by 10.46%. Also, was affected the purchase of raw materials and intermediate products by totalizing US$ 2,317 million and report a reduction of 11.43%; as well as the purchase of capital goods and construction materials that totalized US$ 1,290 million and presented a contraction of 2.65%, compared to the value registered in March 2022.
