Yellow corn production reached 130 thousand 415 tons in February of this year

During the month of February 2023, hard yellow corn production totaled 130 thousand 415 tons and increased by 31.2% compared to the same month of the previous year; this was reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Information Technology (INEI) in the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook.
This result was explained by the larger harvested surfaces and appropriate climate (thermal) factors that allowed the development of cereal; main input used in animal feed for the chicken, beef and pork industry.
By departments, the volume reported by San Martín basically influenced by obtaining a positive rate of 238.6%, followed by Ucayali (57.5%) and Madre de Dios (56.2%) who together contributed 53.6% of the national total; likewise, it increased in Cusco (28.3%), Lambayeque (16.2%), Huancavelica (15.0%), Amazonas (10.7%) and Pasco (10.6%). However, it decreased in the departments of Piura (-73.0%), Ica (-36.4%), Junín (-29.7%), La Libertad (-29.5%), Tumbes (-23.6%) and Cajamarca (-21.3%), among others.
Departments of Lima and Ica concentrated 91.6% of total grape production
Grape production increased in Lima (24.8%) and Ica (21.8%), both considered as the main producing departments, contributing 91.6% of the national total. In addition, it increased in Moquegua (9.6%), La Libertad (8.6%) and San Martín (2.9%). Instead, it decreased in Tacna (-93.7%), Arequipa (-89.2%), Lambayeque (-79.5%), Ayacucho (-75.0%) and Ancash (-1.2%).
Nationally, grape production registered 135 thousand 777 tons and showed a growth of 10.0% compared to February 2022, influenced by favorable thermal conditions that benefited the rejuvenation and fertilization of this fruit aimed at the external and agribusiness markets, associated with the highest demand in international markets.
Poultry production decreased by 1.8%
In February of this year, poultry production decreased by 1.8% compared to February 2022, showing this unfavorable behavior in 22 departments in the country, mainly in Arequipa (-8.9%) and La Libertad (-5.3%). Also, due to the lower production of BB chickens and fattening turkey as a result of the increasing cost and shortage of essential supplies (soy, hard yellow corn and whole grain flour) for bird feeding due to traffic disruption on the highways of several departments, caused by social conflicts.
However, this result was attenuated, due to the increased placement of BB chickens in the department of Lima, which showed an increase of 1.5% and contributed more than 50% of the national poultry production; in addition, it increased in Tumbes (0.5%).
Copper production increased by 10.8%
During the month of February 2023, copper production increased by 10.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, driven by the higher volumes extracted at Minera Shouxin Peru, Marcobre, Minera Chinalco Peru, Cerro Verde and Southern Peru Copper Corporation. In addition to the important contribution of Anglo American Quellaveco that began operations since September 2022; while, it decreased at Minera Antapaccay, Minera Las Bambas, Hudbay Peru and Nexa Resources Peru.
At the departmental level, Moquegua (147.3%) led in growth followed by Ica (56.5%), Puno (39.9%), Cajamarca (15.5%), Lima (13.7%) and Junín (13.0%), among others. In contrast, it was reduced in Huancavelica (-42.9%), Ayacucho (-40.1%), Cusco (-33.8%) and Apurímac (-22.3%).
Electricity production increased by 4.4%
Electric power production increased by 4.4%, as determined by the increased generation of thermal origin energy mainly at the Kallpa, Chilca I, Fénix and Ventanilla power stations. Likewise, the generation of hydraulic origin power at the Mantaro, Restitution, Chaglla, Cerro Del Águila, Cañón Del Pato, Chinango and El Platanal power stations were increased. However, non-conventional renewable energy production of both wind and solar origin decreased.
According to departments, the performance of Arequipa (27.8%), Piura (17.5%), Huancavelica (11.3%), Lima (9.3%) and Junín (5.5%), outstood which together participated with 73.5% of the total generated; however, it decreased in Tacna (-38.5%), Amazonas (-24.8%), Huánuco (-16.7%), Ica (-15.7%), Moquegua (-14.3%), Apurímac (-13.9%) and Ancash (-12.6%), among others.
Revenue collected from internal taxes recorded 9 thousand 946 million 30 thousand Soles
In February of this year, revenue collected from internal taxes reached 9 thousand 946 million 30 thousand Soles and reported an increase of 11.0% (8 thousand 957 million 369 thousand Soles) compared to the same month in 2022.
This favorable performance was supported by the dynamism of the recorded payments of income tax in the third category and the value added. Likewise, the collection increased in 17 departments, of which Ica (34.7%), Piura (13.8%), Lima (11.7%) and Arequipa (6.7%), contributed 92.4% of the total collected.
