Restaurantes actividad increased by 4.16% during February of this year

In the second month of this year, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that the restaurant activity reported an increase of 4.16% compared with the same month of the year 2022. This was explain because of the positive evolution of three of its four components, due to the performance of different national and international gastronomic fairs and the celebration of national holidays are specific of the month. 
 
In addition, during the first two months of this year, this sector increased by 6.84%, according to the results of the Monthly Survey of Restaurants performed by the INEI.
 
Restaurants group increased by 6.67%
Restaurants group grew by 6.67% driven by the dynamism of the activities of Pollerías (Grilled Chicken), fast foods, restaurants, Chifas (Chinese food), meats and grills, touristic restaurants, Cevicherías (Seafood restaurants) and ice-cream shops. This happens as a response to the promotions for summer campaigns, strategic alliances with companies, publicity through mass media, innovation in gastronomic menus, live shows and better performance of delivery service.
 
Also contributed the celebrations such as the Pachamanca National Day, Valentine’s Day, Cajamarca’s Carnival and the performance of gastronomic fairs, among them “Live Gastronomy: love, culture and flavor” in Lima, “Filo Summer Fest” in Punta Hermosa and “2023 International Gastronomy Festival of English Bay, Pacific Kitchens” in Chile. 
 
Same trend presented the sector Chinese food, coffee shops, confectionaries, Creole food, sandwich restaurants, Japanese food, international food and pizza restaurant business. 
 
Beverage service increased by 18.16%
The INEI informed that the beverage service increased by 18.16% influenced by the sectors coffee shops, juice shops, bar restaurants and bars, in line with the loyalty and customer acquisition, live music, advertising in social networks, schedules extended, offers in special juices, snow cones, smoothies and different cocktails and macerated. In addition, Valentine’s Day and Pisco Sour National Day celebration contributed by gathering a great quantity of national and foreign visitors. 
 
Catering food service grew by 2.28%
Catering food service increased by 2.28% due to the greater demand of the preparation and distribution service of foods for events, in the attention of lunches and dinners of camaraderie, product launch, events de integration and social reunions.
 
Other activities of food services reported slowdown
In February of this year, other activities of food service reported a decrease of 10.24%, affected by the activity of food concessionaires, due to the reduction of contracts for the attention of dining rooms at national level. Mining, financial, manufacturing, fishing businesses, cement factories, hospitals, clinics and military institutions; affected businesses by the manifestations and blocked highways in the south zone of the country.
 
On the other hand, food supply increased for contractors (food service to air and land transportation) before the greater frequency of travels with promotions in touristic packages, month festivities and holiday season.
