More than six and a half million of boys and girls commemorate their day in Peru

As we celebrate this Sunday April 9, the Day of the Peruvian Child, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informs that in our country there is a total of 6 million 546 thousand girls and boys under 12 years old, and represent the 19.4% of the total population of the country.
44.9% of the households of the country have among its members at least one girl or boy
According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), in 44.9% of the households of the country there is at least one boy or girl as family member of the household. In the urban area, this proportion reached 45.0% of the households and in rural area reached 44.7%.
60.2% of girls and boys under 12 years old cohabit in the household with both parents
In 60.2% the households with at least a girl or a boy under twelve years old, there are the father and the mother living under the same roof. In 11.3% of the households, there is just the mother that has the responsibility of its development. In 1.8% just the father and in 26.7% there are other members of the family, such as grandparents, uncles, cousins, among others.
93 out of 100 girls and boys under 12 years old have health insurance
92.5% of the girls and boys between 0 to 11 years old have health insurance. By sex, 92.5% and 92.4% of boys and girls under 12 years old have an insurance. By place of residence, the proportion of girls and boys with health insurance reached 91.7% in urban area and 95.3% in rural area.
According to the type of health insurance, 71.4% is affiliated to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) and the 18.5% to the Social Insurance (EsSalud). In the urban area, the children under 12 years old affiliated to SIS represented the 66.0% and those affiliated to EsSalud represented 22.4%; while in the rural area those affiliated to SIS reached 90.7% and those affiliated to EsSalud reached 4.5%.
98 out of 100 under 12 years old have DNI
Regarding to the possession of the National Identity Document (DNI), 97.5% of children under 12 years old have the identity document. By place of residence, the possession of the DNI in urban area reached 97.7% and in the rural area the 96.8%.
