24.5% of the older adults headed households are single households

During the fourth quarter of the year 2022, from the households total headed by an older adult person, 24.5% are single households; it means people aged 60 years old and over that live alone. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of the Older Adult Population, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO).
According to sex, from the older adult female-headed households, 37.3% are single households; in the case of older adult male headed households, 16.8%.
Likewise, 49.5% of the older adults headed households are nuclear type (couple with/without children). 19.5% are extended households; it means that to the nuclear household are added other relatives. 5.7% are non-nuclear households (comprises by a male/female chief without spouse or children, that live with other persons which may has or has not family ties). In addition, 0.8% are composed; it means there are inside the household, besides the relatives, other members that are not family members.
26.1% of the households of the country have as female or male head of household an older adult person
During the last quarter of the year 2022, from the total of households of the country, 26.1% had as male or female chief of household a person aged 60 years old and older. According to sex, there are more women than men older adults as chief of household; thus from the total of female headed households, in the 28.5% the chief is an older adult women; in the case of male headed households, in the 24.8% the chief is an older adult men.
40 out of 100 households of the country have among their member a persons aged 60 years old and older person
During the period under study, 39.5% of the households of the country have between their members at least one person aged 60 years old and older; compared with the last quarter of the year 2021, it increased in 0.6 percentage points. By residency place, 42.8% of the households of rural area have an older adult person, followed by 42.2% of Lima Metropolitan area households and 36.2% of the urban rest.
89.7% of the older adult population has some type of health insurance
From the total population aged 60 years old and over, 89.7% have some health insurance (public or private). By residency area, affiliation coverage to this service outstands in rural area with 90.9%; followed by the urban rest and Lima Metropolitan area with 89.5% and 89.1%, respectively.
According to the type of health insurance, 34.5% of the older adult population accesses just to EsSalud and 50.5% just to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS). By comparing these results with those of the fourth quarter of the year 2021, the proportion of the population affiliated to the SIS increased by 1.9 percentage points while the proportion of the population affiliated to the EsSalud decreased in 1.3 percentage points.

From the total of population that suffers some disability, 41.6% is an older adult person
During the quarter under analysis, from the total of personas that have some disability 41.6% are older adults, it means that they are 60 years old and older. It is worth to mention that it is greater the proportion of the older adult population with some disability in rural area (50.1%) than in urban area (38.9%).
According to age groups, from the older adult population that have some disability, 14.8% are 60 to 70 years old and 26.8% are 71 years old and older.
57.1% of the older adult population is economically active
From the total of older adult persons, 57.1% are part of the Economically Active Population (EAP), being the greater participation of male older adults with 68.1%, higher in 20.9 percentage points than women are (47.2%).
